Traffic Count Station Construction Schedule Updates

New Traffic Data Recording Equipment is Currently Being Installed to Replace All of the Exisiting Traffic Counters in the Park

From September 10 to October 28, 2018 the park will be replacing the existing traffic counters in Yosemite, beginning this week along Tioga Road. At each location, the park will be installing loop vehicle detectors in each lane, trenching and placing undergroud conduit/wiring along the shoulder of the road and installing an Automatic Traffic Data Recorder.

While work is under way, you should expect to see a flagging operation that will reduce traffic to one lane. Each lane will be closed for approximately 3 hours. A flagger and traffic cones will be out in the work zones. This may cause short traffic delays during the day as work crews proceed with digging and cutting operations along the shoulder of the road and in the roadway. Motorsits should expect day work along Tioga Road, Big Oak Flat Road, Wawona and Glacier Point Roads, Southside Drive near the Chapel, and Northside Drive near Camp 4. Night work will take place at the South Entrance, Arch Rock, and Big Oak Flat Entrance. Work will not be conduted on the weekends, from Friday night to Sunday afternoon.

Federal Highways contractors ARA and DTS have now completed work at the Tioga Pass and in Tuolumne Meadows. Ongoing tasks and a schedule for continuing work is as follows:

• Crane Flat: thru Oct 12, daytime work with right turn lane closed on Big Oak Flat Road.
• Northside Drive at Camp 4: Oct 15-17, daytime work with single lane closures.
• Southside Drive at Chapel: Oct 18-22, daytime work with single lane closures.
• Chinquapin: Oct 23, daytime work with lane closures and one-way traffic controls on Wawona Road.
• Arch Rock Entrance Station: Oct 24 and Oct 31, night work with lane closures and one-way traffic controls.
• Big Oak Flat Entrance Station: Oct 25, daytime work (no road closure required).
• South Entrance Station: Oct 26-30, night work with lane closures and one-way traffic controls.

Work includes installation of loop vehicle detectors in each lane with excavation for conduit, pull boxes, and wiring along the road shoulders. Night work is planned when lane closures are required at entrance stations. Please watch the road for workers and follow instructions provided by signs, traffic control devices, and flaggers.
