Re: Cancelled reservations turn into walkup campsites

So... Just a curious thing I noticed with recreation.gov

I had a reservation for mother's day weekend (may 10-12) but cancelled it just a few weeks ago. Out of curiosity, I looked on recreation.gov and it now shows the site I had as walkup.

Does anyone know if this is a new policy? I thought it would get released back into the wild.

I thought I might be able to attach a screenshot, but I guess I can't. It's site 217 in upper pines (may 10-12).

Normally, your cancelled site would get released " back into the wild" within a few minutes. The reservation specialist I spoke with explaned that the "NEW" recreation.gov has been experiencing "reservation issues" and hopes to have problems ironed out soon. When did you notice the site as a walk-up? Walk-up sites were released at 7:20 am last Saturday.

i verified the walk up status when i posted this. I guess if it stays in WalkUp status.. then it gives hope to those last minute campers going to the valley.

We had two sites reserved in Upper Pines for Apr. 21st that I had to cancel (211 and 203). That was on March 22nd. Having just seen this thread I went back into recreation.gov and sure enough, both sites now show as W.

I had reserved a site in lower pines from Apr. 14 to 21, not sure when the grand-kids would be available to go. I just found out it would be the 16th-20th, so I changed the reservation. Right after that I went back into to the site and looked, and it shows an A on the 14th, 15th, 20th and 21st...and not W. Interesting that last week when I cancelled in Upper Pines it showed a W (and still does)
