Had planned to eat at the Wolf Creek bar in Markleeville, but it's closed. So kept on driving towards our destination (Lee Vining). Stopped at a cute place in Walker, Walker Burger. Really pleasant gardens with plenty of shade, whimsical decorations, but the burgers were terrible. I'm not even sure if it was beef. And pricey. Pricey and bad is not a good combo.

On the flip side, great hot dog from the Tuolumne grill (though crazy slow line), and also had fantastic service and good food at Tuolumne lodge, both dinner and breakfast.

Tried the taco truck in Farmington; that was good also. $1.75 a taco. :-)

If you are going through Farmington, you should also try Hula's in Escalon. Very good, huge portions, fair pricing,

And in the little shopping center just west of Oakdale are a Chinese and a Pho restaurant, Neither is spectacular, but both are cheap and decent. Gotta love that.

Found the River's Edge Restaurant in Knight's Ferry (east of Oakdale off HWY 120/108) by accident one trip. Just had a soft drink and some snack (don't recall what) but the location is very nice. Sit outside on a warm summer day on their expansive back lawn and you can even drag a plastic chair into the Stanislaus River and sit as long as you like.

I agree, River's Edge location is nice if you want to relax for a while and have time, and have a snack. I find it (for meals) a bit too pricey for the quality and service you get. We like to stay in Knights Ferry, so I've tried it a few times.

Will have to check out this Hula's.

I've always enjoyed Walker Burger but their service is slow. We eat there often after backpacking trips so we like to eat outside downwind from the other customers. Maybe we are just starving after a week in the backcountry? I much prefer it to to overpriced hipster hangout at 395 and 120. Their food is good but it cost me more to eat there than it does to fill up my gas tank. Are they still doing the trapeze act in the parking lot?

Walker Burger, like all restaurants in Bridgeport, have a hard time staying in staying in business. With highway 108 and 120 closed much of the year, and being well north of Yosemite, keeping any business in Bridgeport open is challenge. Have you noticed the price of gas in town! Still it's a cute town, and the soft serve ice cream at the Walker Burger is a treat.

Nicely's :-) Their fried chicken is good. Their salad was good too; crisply lettuce. Also great atmosphere. Other food items, you can skip. :-)

I've never thought much of Whoa Nellie Deli. I don't get what's so special about it.

Ya, Bridgeport is cute. I thought the motel that was across the street from Walker Burger had a done a nice job decorating their yard.

Unless I am mistaken, Walker Burger is in Walker, not in Bridgeport. (or is that just comingling of the sentences)

I've always liked Walker Burger (4.5 on yelp for what it is worth) The garden is lovely, and the burger, shake and fries are delicious. It's a burger joint in eastern California. Don't expect a fancy burger, but a solid one. The initial poster may have gotten a bad one, or something was off that day. I once had a BLT in Bridgeport, and it was missing one of the letters of the BLT (It seems so simple!). I have a few other stories of bad restaurant meals and I'm sure everyone else does. Everyone has their bad days. I'll visit Walker Burger again.

No?! Do you know why it is closed? Our go to spot in Lee Vinning. Good milkshakes

Mono Cone is still closed. Heard that it is because of a death in the family and, maybe, the sale of the property

We've had decent Mexican food and really good friendly service at The 395 Cafe at the south end of town...

Is that the new establishment in the location that used to be Hayes St. Cafe? That was a pretty good place for breakfast (with giant coffee cake touted as fresh-baked daily). They closed a few years back - I think I heard it was retirement - and it didn't reopen for some time. I was wondering if/when it would.

Mexican is a good add to the area. Used to enjoy Michaela's for good, real home-made authentic food. IIRC, someone died (Michaela?) ... they (Mr. Michaela?) were going to try to keep it going, but failed. It's been shuttered since, and I presume now totally defunct with no others ready to give it a shot.

As already mentioned, running a business on the east side is a very difficult endeavor.

Try the Mountain View Barbeque place in Walker. Great atmosphere. Good food. Friendly place. Great menu.
