SUNDAY AFTERNOON ABOVE 6000 FEET...

* WHAT...Heavy snow possible above 6000 feet. Total snow
accumulations of one to three feet possible. Winds could gust as
high as 35 mph.

* WHERE...Central Sierra Nevada from Yosemite to Fresno County.

* WHEN...From late Friday night through Sunday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible for much
of this weekend.

...MORE UNSETTLED WINTER WEATHER ON THE WAY...

Several more inches of snow are possible in the eastern Sierra
early this evening. Otherwise, showers will be on the decrease
tonight. Travel will remain hazardous this evening along Highway
395 through Mono County with patchy icy spots possible for Tahoe
and western Nevada locations overnight and during the Thursday
morning commute.

A stronger storm is forecast to arrive Friday afternoon and
continue over the weekend. This storm will bring another round of
heavy wet snow to the high Sierra and rain for the lower
elevations. As snow levels fall late Saturday afternoon into
Sunday, some snow accumulation is possible for northeast
California and foothill locations as well. If you have plans to
travel through the Sierra this weekend, make sure to watch the
weather forecast closely and be prepared for treacherous travel
across the Sierra.

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING
TO 7 PM PST SUNDAY ABOVE 6000 FEET...

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected above 6000 feet. Total snow
accumulation of one to three feet likely above 7000 feet. Snow
amounts of three to six inches expected from 6000 to 7000 feet.
Wind gusting as high as 50 mph on exposed ridgetops and along
the crest.

* WHERE...Southern Sierra Nevada.

* WHEN...From 10 PM PST tonight until 7 PM PST Sunday evening.

* IMPACTS...Travel will be extremely difficult or nearly
impossible.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...If you plan to travel, consider alternate
strategies. If you must travel, remember to carry tire chains,
plenty of food, a good deal of water, and warm clothing in
your vehicle.
