...Periods of wet weather will continue through the weekend...

A series of systems will bring additional rain and snow to the
region through Sunday. A relatively warm system lasting into Friday
morning will bring gusty winds to western Nevada with rain and
very high elevation snow for the Sierra and portions of northeast
California.

A colder system Friday evening into Saturday morning will bring
lowering snow levels with increasing travel impacts for Sierra
passes. Mainly rain is expected for western Nevada. This is the
part of the storm that will bring the heaviest rain and snow
totals but it is still modest by Sierra standards. Snow totals in
the northern Sierra above 7000 feet could reach 5 to 10 inches,
locally higher, with up to a couple inches at Lake Tahoe level.
Farther south into Mono County, 3 to 6 inches of snow is possible
for the high Sierra with a dusting up to 2 inches for communities
and passes along US-395. For northeast California, lower liquid
totals along with high snow levels will limit snow accumulation.
Passes west of Susanville may see a couple inches of snowfall with
a dusting possible for valleys.

The coldest system is expected by Saturday afternoon or early
evening into Sunday with snow possible down to all valley floors.
Snow totals for lower valleys will be minimal and those places
that do get snow are likely to only receive a dusting up to an
inch. Keep in mind that it doesn`t take much snow to bring travel
difficulties and cars will pack down light snow amounts into ice.

Bottom line: Travel is likely to be difficult for weekend travel
and ski traffic crossing over the Sierra, with slick conditions
possible for portions of western Nevada Saturday night into Sunday.
Make sure you are ready for winter driving conditions and allow
extra time to reach your destination.
