...FLASH FLOOD WATCH NOW IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM PDT THIS AFTERNOON
THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...

The Flash Flood Watch will go into effect this afternoon for...

* A portion of southeast California, including the following
areas...Death Valley National Park, Eastern Sierra Slopes,
Owens Valley, Western Mojave Desert, and White Mountains of Inyo
County.

* From 2 PM PDT this afternoon through late tonight

* Heavy rainfall is expected to develop and move into the area
this afternoon, eventually spreading north and east into Death
Valley National Park and the southern Owens Valley. Localized
rainfall rates of up to 0.25-0.50 inch an hour possible will
increase the likelihood of flooding in normally dry drainages.
Flash flooding of area roadways, especially where washes cross
the roadway, will be of particular concern.

* Specifically for the Taboose Burn Area...rain rates could
exceed a quarter inch per hour this evening. These rates could
result in flash flooding within Tinemaha Creek, Red Mountain
Creek and Taboose Creek. Debris flows may be possible if heavier
rates occur. Additionally, rock falls may occur in the steeper
terrain.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may become favorable
for flooding of washes...streams and other drainage areas in the
watch area. If you are in the watch area...you should closely
monitor weather forecasts and be prepared to take immediate
action should heavy rain and flooding occur or a flash flood
warning is issued.
