...LAKE WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM MONDAY TO 11 AM PDT
TUESDAY...

* CHANGES....Added Lake Wind Advisory for Monday into Tuesday.
Also extended the Dense Smoke Advisory.

* WHAT...For the Lake Wind Advisory, northwest winds 15 to 20 mph
with gusts up to 35 mph expected. Winds will decrease a bit
overnight, but pick back up again by Tuesday morning from the
northeast. For the Dense Smoke Advisory, smoke from the Creek
and Slink fires is bringing unhealthy to locally hazardous air
quality, especially south of Bridgeport. Visibilities below 3
miles are possible, mainly in the high Sierra.

* WHERE...Topaz, Bridgeport, Mono, and Crowley.

* WHEN...For the Lake Wind Advisory, from 1 PM Monday to 11 AM
PDT Tuesday. For the Dense Smoke Advisory, until noon PDT
Monday.

* IMPACTS...Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone
to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until
conditions improve. Hazardous driving conditions due to low
visibility.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There may be some improvement this
afternoon, but smoke simulations show another round of smoke
inundating the region by 8pm from the Slink fire.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Check lake conditions before heading out and be prepared for a
sudden increase in winds and wave heights. Consider postponing
boating activities on the lake until a day with less wind.

Stay indoors as much as possible when smoke is present. Avoid
strenuous activity, especially if you are sensitive to poor air
quality, such as the elderly, children and anyone with chronic
illness or respiratory problems. Consider postponing outdoor
activities. Check airnow.gov for the latest air quality
information.

How bad is it in Napa?

At 8 a.m. in Napa this morning, I tried to take a photo of our backyard. On the one hand, it looked as if it were snowing...as ash fell from the sky at a steady pace. But it was difficult to capture the scene on my camera. because it was so dark that the camera's auto-flash deployed.


Yes, in what would normally be broad daylight, any outdoor photos required a flash. And that flash lit up the flecks of ash falling from the sky. It was so bad that when I got up this morning I thought I had misread the clock, because it was dark outside...


Absolutely apocalyptic.

on the other hand, current AQI at Tuolumne Meadows, and 2 stations at Mammoth, are all in single digits. I guess you really don't need a weather man to know which way the wind blows
