...Cold Front to Bring Very Light Snow Showers and Breezy Winds
Tonight into Tuesday Morning...
...Wetter Storms Looking Likely for Christmas Weekend...

* Breezy southwest winds are forecast this evening into early
Tuesday morning. Most of the wind will be confined to higher
elevation mountain areas, however periods of strong gusty winds
are possible along Highway 395 in the Eastern Sierra and along
Highway 95 near Walker Lake. Travel impacts to high profile
vehicles are possible, along with localized brief fire weather
concerns in lower elevation valleys.

* Light snow showers or flurries are possible tonight into early
Tuesday morning. Trends have been for less snow, with only a
dusting possible and mainly for areas around Susanville,
Cedarville, and Gerlach. Colder temperatures will sweep in for
Tuesday through Thursday, but nothing excessively cold for this
time of year.

* A stormy pattern is taking shape starting Christmas Day through
the upcoming weekend, so anyone with travel plans should keep a
close eye on the forecast. The first storm looks to bring
mountain snow, valley rains, and breezy winds Christmas
afternoon through Saturday morning. A second, colder storm is
possible Sunday into early Monday. While this storm could drop
more snow into valley areas and the Eastern Sierra, there is
considerable uncertainty regarding the storm track and impacts.

...Active Weather Pattern Christmas Weekend...

A pair of Pacific storms are forecast to impact the Sierra and
western Nevada over the upcoming holiday weekend into early next
week. While these storms may not produce blockbuster snow totals,
those traveling over the Sierra passes should consider adjusting
plans to avoid lengthy delays typically associated with holiday
weekend travel. If you insist on traveling during a winter storm,
remember to pack some essentials like patience, extra food, water,
battery packs for mobile devices, and holiday cheer.

The first storm looks to bring mountain snow, valley rain, and
breezy winds Christmas afternoon through Saturday morning. Travel
across the Sierra looks good through Christmas morning, but
conditions may begin to worsen Christmas afternoon. A period of
heavy snow is possible in the northern Sierra Christmas Night into
early Saturday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued
for northeast California and the Lake Tahoe area, where the most
winter travel impacts are anticipated. A round of gusty winds will
accompany the storm for communities along Highway 395 in western
Nevada and the eastern Sierra but it doesn`t appear to be a
significant wind event.

A second, colder storm is possible Sunday night into Monday.
Additional snow in the Sierra is possible with temperatures cold
enough to bring some snow to the western Nevada and eastern
Sierra valleys. There is considerable uncertainty regarding the
storm track and impacts at this time, but appears the best snow
potential is from Lake Tahoe southward to Mammoth Lakes then
across western Nevada along and south of Interstate 80.
