The Vegetation and Ecological Restoration branch are conducting a restoration project at the former raft launch at Stoneman Bridge from September 13 to November 19. This project, called for in the Merced River Plan, will install an engineered log structure west of Stoneman Bridge and will plant willows and other native species to restore a portion of the riverbank that has eroded substantially over time. Signage will be installed to direct visitors to rafting access on the north side of Stoneman bridge. This project will enhance habitat for fish, frogs, birds and plants and will help to narrow the river channel. There may be brief impacts at the four-way intersection with Southside and Northside drive as equipment passes through. In these instances, NPS staff will conduct traffic control for safety.
