...A WINTER STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM PST THIS
AFTERNOON UNTIL 1 PM PST THURSDAY AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of one to
two feet, with isolated amounts up to three feet above 5,000
feet. Snow amounts of 6 to 12 inches from 3,000 feet to 5,000
feet. Wind will gust as high as 50 mph on exposed ridgetops and
near the crest.

* WHERE...Yosemite NP outside of the valley, Upper San Joaquin
River, Kaiser to Rodgers Ridge and Kings Canyon NP Counties.

* WHEN...Valid from 4 PM PST this afternoon until 1 PM PST
Thursday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Travel will be extremely difficult or nearly
impossible. Expect snow covered roads and low visibilities.
These hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.
Gusty winds may bring down tree branches.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you plan to travel, consider alternate strategies. If you must
travel, remember to carry tire chains, plenty of food, a good deal
of water, warm clothing, and an extra flashlight in your vehicle.

The following message is transmitted at the request of the
Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center.

The Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center in Mammoth Lakes has extended
the BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WARNING for the following areas:
Eastern Sierra in Inyo County (CA Zone 519) and Mono County (CA
Zone 73)

* WHAT...Widespread High Avalanche danger will exist Tuesday Night
through Wednesday.

* WHERE...The eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain range
between Virginia Lakes on the north to Bishop Creek on the
south.

* WHEN...Now in effect through Wednesday 6 PM PST.

* IMPACTS...Heavy snowfall combined with strong winds and a weak
underlying snowpack will likely create widespread areas of
unstable snow. Large human triggered and natural avalanches are
likely.

* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Very dangerous avalanche
conditions. Travel in or below avalanche terrain is not
recommended. Avalanches may run long distances into flat
terrain.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS
EVENING TO 1 PM PST THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches
along Highway 395, 7 to 14 inches west of Highway 395 including
Mammoth Lakes, and up to 20 inches near the Sierra crest.
Lighter amounts up to 1 inch in the Chalfant Valley. Winds
gusting up to 45 mph with Sierra ridge gusts to near 100 mph.

* WHERE...Mono County.

* WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 1 PM PST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult across the Eastern
Sierra. The hazardous conditions will impact the Thursday
morning commute. Delays likely with road closures possible.
Strong winds could cause tree damage and power outages. Expect
periods of poor visibility in blowing snow.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

The combination of this new snowfall and gusty winds with
existing snow cover could cause major travel delays, especially
during periods of high traffic volume. Be sure to allow extra time
to reach your destination. Leave extra space between vehicles
since it takes longer to stop on slick roadways.
