“Digital Photography and the Real World from National Parks to Antarctica,” a lecture by photographer, teacher and author Stephen Johnson, will be free and open to the public on Sept. 14 at Napa Valley College. Sponsored by Napa Valley College’s Photography Department, the talk will be held at 7 p.m. in the college’s Performing Arts Center, Room 142, 2277 Napa-Vallejo Hwy.

Canon’s Explorer of Light Photographer

In 1999, Folio Magazine declared the publication of Johnson’s digital photographs in Life Magazine to be one of the Top 15 Critical Events in magazine publishing in the 20th century. Johnson was named as a 2003 inductee into the Photoshop Hall of Fame, recognized for his achievements in Art. Canon named him as one of their Explorers of Light in 2006. In 2007 X-Rite named him as a founding member of their exclusive Coloratti group of photographers and educators honored for their skills in color management. Current projects include With a New Eye, an all-digital national parks photographic project, a collection of recent work around the world Exquisite Earth, and huge digital panoramics.

All Canon Explorer of Light programs are free and must be open to the public, a requirement by Canon. Attendees win, but if you have an association hosting one, you lose money most of the time.
