Bruce, thank you for the information. Though the bag or canister is still the law, I may want to try your hanging method too. What does counterbalance mean when it comes to hanging the bag? Do you still hang yours? Also, how many Ursacks do you think are carried off by the bears. Thanks again, Steveby skskinner - General Discussion
Mike, Thanks again. Actually, the bag is approved, on the condition that you also have the aluminum insert. The thing I don't like about the bag is that it must be closed tightly and that is hard to do. The rope is like 2700 pound test, and according to the advertizements, with the alum liner, the bear cannot crush it unless he jumps on it. Thank you for your input, I am going to keep and open mby skskinner - General Discussion
MIKE, THANK YOU SO MUCH. YOU ARE A GREAT HELP. GOOD LUCK, Steveby skskinner - General Discussion
I purchased and Bear Bag Ursack s29 with alum liner due to it's lighter weight and I can use it on the AP next year, but what are your thoughts on which is better? After seeing the Bag, I am not sure the canister is not better, I mean, the bag would be easy for the bear to carry off. I would love to hear from you who have had experience with both. Thank you, Steveby skskinner - General Discussion
THAT PICTURE shown on one reply is what we in Indiana call Poison Sumac. Three leaves are called poison ivy and five are poison oak. It is all over everything in Indiana, in fact, I am hard pressed to find a spot for a tent where there is none. The last two times I backpacked I actually piched my tent on it and everyone else did too. That's the midwest for ya.by skskinner - General Discussion
Here is another question that I can't find the answer to. I am age 60 and not a jogger; used to be. I backpack Indiana, Kentucky, Tennisee with no problem other than going a little slowly. I hike about every other week for between 7 and 20 miles, camping the night too. I plan to do the John Muir trail in July. Can you tell me what I am in for trying to do this? I won't be acclamated either. I knby skskinner - General Discussion

I was thinking a motel for the last night. Will it be ok to leave the car for 3 weeks or a month? Wow, that would be great. Thank you for your response. I appreciate it. Steveby skskinner - General Discussion
I have my reservation for a wilderness permit on 7/13 to 8/7 from Lyell Canyon. It is all I could get at this late date. I plan to hike to Whitney and get a ride back to Yosemite to pick up my car. I am from Indiana and am coming alone. Can anyone give me advice on where to stay the day before and where to store my car? Thanks for any help you can give an old man retiring a going after his dreamby skskinner - General Discussion
