Thanks for posting. I love these reports! I live in the east and we don't get Sierra reports in the news, but from what I have seen I thought there would be more snow... Way back in the day, when the high Sierra camps would open, (is anybody here old enough to remember that?😜) they usually opened around July 4 with Vogelsang opening maybe a week after that. So early July *might* be ok, depending on the snowpack.by The Other Tom - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

QuoteNot quite The Geezer, but getting there 1. And what of people who have held reservations for the last several years whose reservations got cancelled? 2. I wish they wouldn't be opaque about why they're not opening Vogelsang and Merced Lake, and explain how opening the other camps is different. 3. Are they going to revert to "Tuolumne Meadows High Sierra Camp"? Well, at least thby The Other Tom - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Rafferty can dry up this time of year, but maybe this year there will still be some flow due to the large snowpack from last season. Maybe you'll get a first hand report. BTW, be mindful of the weather. Snow is predicted this weekend. see the link below. https://yosemitenews.info/forum/read.php?3,98566by The Other Tom - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Thanks for the report. It brings back memories of when my son I and did some of the same hikes, back when I was "not quite the geezer". Now time has passed, my son is grown and married and has a son of his own, and I'm a geezer🤣. Enjoy the times with your son. It takes a certain amount of organizational skill and knowledge to operate the camps. It's seasonal work and those workers have moved on after several years of the camps being closed. It will be very hard to get that back and unfortunately, IMO, may never happen. Who would train the new workers? Unfortunately, the knowledge base is gone. Thanks for the report and the pics. I would call it "The Epic Win". I can't remember a trip I've been on that we didn't have to make a plan B. It's a good life lesson. And an even better lesson was the decision to stay back and let their fellow scout heal. Thanks for your (and the other leader's) leadership on this. I'd say it'd be a long shot if the man was ID'd here, but more details might help. Local guy? Out of state? Park employee? Circumstances around the meeting? Date of photo? I haven't checked, but I'd guess there is a Yosemite group(s) on Facebook, which has a much wider audience than this forum. Back in the day, under Delaware North, I was actually able to score a reservation for the HSC. But alas, it was a high snow year and they didn't open. So despite my distaste for Aramark, I understand their reasoning this time.by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
