It sounds like it's plowed all the way through, but are still clearing avalanche zones and such, so that the road is not yet open to traffic. If you drive up from the Lee Vining side, you can park a couple hundred meters from the gate and walk into the park. For me, this is the best time of year to visit - absolutely dead quiet and beautiful. Sonora Pass is open, so you can get around the parkby swede42 - General Discussion
Take it - it's truly spectacular! I love that it's very steep and winding - much different than the Tioga Pass road and impassible for mobile homes and large trucks.by swede42 - General Discussion

It all still seems very cheap to those who pay more-normal prices in the rest of the developed world. It starts to bring home the true cost of the profligate purchase of some massive SUV. Perhaps when it gets to $7 or $8/gallon we'll finally get smarter Stateside on transportation.by swede42 - General Discussion
This is completely off: SR 120 IS CLOSED FROM CRANE FLAT TO 5 MI WEST OF THE JCT OF US 395 /TIOGA PASS/ (TUOLUMNE,MONO CO) - FOR THE WINTER - MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE The park entrance is a lot farther than 5 miles west of 395. It's going to be several more weeks.by swede42 - General Discussion
After the road is open is not really the best time to see Tioga Pass, quizmaster. It's much nicer just before the road is open, as you can drive up rather close from the eastern side out of Lee Vining and walk the rest of the way to the park. There are no cars, no trucks, no Harleys - just you and the park. It can't be beat!!!by swede42 - General Discussion
