My source was the nps website. "The Half Dome cables are down for the season. The cables could tentatively be up on May 15, conditions permitting. The cable route may be closed for several days prior to May 15 as the cables are installed."by Twagner - General Discussion
Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure if the trail split to Half Dome before you got to Nevada Fall.by Twagner - General Discussion
If I do the Half Dome hike via Mist Trail, will I go past the top of Vernal Fall? I want to do the Nevada/Vernal falls hike but if this is included in the Half Dome hike then I won't do it on a seperate day.by Twagner - General Discussion
Woohoo, Half Dome cables are to be tentatively complete by Friday May 15th. Seeing as my trip is May 11-15, this is indeed exciting news.by Twagner - General Discussion
I went there last Christmas. I got to see the sunrise from the summit and it was absolutely amazing. The sun rises from behind the clouds and you feel like you are in some other world at the time. I then biked the way down and stopped at this amazing restaraunt with stunning views, I think the name of it was Kula Lodge & Restaurant. It was freezing at the top, but it was worth every shiveby Twagner - General Discussion
Quotey_p_w Now I'd think one of the best places to view the stars on a clear night would be Mauna Kea. Just bring a jacket. A few weeks ago I was at the top of Haleakala. I heard that could be an incredible place to watch the sun rise right out of the clouds (wasn't there long enough to check out a sunrise), but they've also got some observatories there at a place called Science City. I won't be rafting in Yosemite, I am rafting the Tuolumne with a rafting company. I will definately be doing Glacier Point, I just was looking for a way up with minimal driving and the most hiking. Looks like I will do the trip from Sentinal Dome to Glacier Point and back down. All the info has been a great help and I am still keeping my fingers crossed for the 4 mile trail late in the week, bby Twagner - General Discussion
Would you recommend hiking to Glacier Point from Sentinel Dome and back over taking a bus to the top and hiking the Panorama Trail down?by Twagner - General Discussion
Any other nice day hikes I can throw in? I will probably skip Glacier Point if it means I have to drive, I don't want to get in my car once after I get there (except for the rafting trip).by Twagner - General Discussion
While I have this post going, I just want to throw my itinerary out there to see if there are any suggestions or alternatives that you would suggest (I am in good shape so tough day hikes would not be a problem as long as the trail is easy to follow): May 10th: Get situated and adjust to altitude (maybe throw in a light hike) May 11th: Hike Upper Yosemite Falls May 12th: Check out Mariposa Gby Twagner - General Discussion
Thanks for the info on Costco, I will be staying in Yosemite for a week (woohoo!) and will definately need to stock up on some food.by Twagner - General Discussion
Thanks for all the advice, I think I will give Oakhurst a try. I certainly know all about the great city of Fresno (have had some bad experiences there), as I am originally from the Bay Area. The info really helped because I am not familiar with anything past the Fresno area.by Twagner - General Discussion
I am driving to Yosemite from Phoenix, Arizona and I was wondering where good places are to stay about 2 hours outside of the park, specifically nice areas/towns to visit. It is a 13 hour drive from here, so I plan to drive around 11 hours Saturday May 9th and arrive in Yosemite May 10th. I will not be camping so wilderness is out of the question.by Twagner - General Discussion
Hello, I am visiting Yosemite May 10-16. I noticed that Glacier Point Road may be opening up early this year (tentatively April 24th). Does that mean that the 4 mile trail will be accessible at that time as well, or will trail conditions still not be safe enough? If not, is the 4 mile trail usually open by mid May? I would really love to do this hike up to Glacier Point but I could not findby Twagner - General Discussion
