Those are great, I can't get there right now and some of those photos would look great on my iPad. If you have any other killer shots post some more, thanks.by Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Yeah I guess it really is too early to worry, maybe it will be a late winter and August will be perfect time??by Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Okay, I will see what happens. I don't plan on going to the valley, I want to hit some day hikes in the high country I have yet to do. I normally backpack but everything I want to do I can day hike to this time. I have a trip set for August, but I am wondering with the weather this year, if August will be just dead meadows everywhere and no water by thenby Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I have several trips planned this summer for the high country. I wanted to reserve a spot for the July 4th weekend. However that block of reservations never opened up. With the snow pack this year, I have a feeling it will be an early opener unless something changes. Will those dates ever open up? Or how does that work. I don't want to miss a window but I really hate driving all that way on a craby Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I think the video is great. With 3 kids under the age of 7, i can't get that time away to the JMT. In the meantime, I'll watch this great video.by Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I was there a few weeks ago, in the morning we could do what ever we could. By the afternoon, we were glad that we were riding bicycles because you could not drive on the road to save your life. We checkout out a day early, so we could leave in the morning with no traffic.by Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
We can't get the campgrounds rebuilt, so we can actually visit the park with our families, but we can cut down trees to take photos. WTFby Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
We don't need any more rangers or fines or enforcers. People that make poor choices live with them, its the WILDerness. There are enough permits and rules already mandated. Could you imagine John Muir being told the trails were full and he could not head out that day!!!!!!!!!by Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Crane flat might be closer, but where would you camp at Crane Flat?by Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
You will fight traffic everyday leaving the valley if you are going to drive out. If you leave early in the morning before breakfast it should be fine. My family is early risers, we are out at 7am and exploring before anyone else. I normally either stay in the valley, if exploring the valley, or i backpacking by myself. If you are going to stay at one of those choices, i prefer Wawona better. Theby Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Must be higher, We rode our bicycles over the bridge on monday, and tuesday. Wednesday you could get across the bridge, but the other side of the bridge towards el cap was flooded and not clear to travel on. Lots of water everywhere. I did not see any flooding in Lower Pines, like last year though.by Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
That is a pretty cool video, thanksby Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I did not know that they did that. Is this something they do every year. I assume it is just bicycles. I have always wanted to ride my bicycle on tioga pass rd., however, when tourist traffic, i think it is crazy.by Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I was planning on backpacking in mid July but changed it to second week in August, due to allowing someone else to have that vacation week. I like going earlier in the season, because i like have plenty of creeks around with water to drink (Biggest fear of mine, not having water). I think it might just work out okay this year going later.by Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I enjoy backpacking and the peace i get with that. But i have kids ages 6,5, and 2. Every year we go to yosemite for one week in the summer. It is their big week outdoors that they look forward to every year. However, I have a large trailer that only fits into two spots in lower pines. One is great on the river, but i have never ever been able to get that spot. I fight over one other spot every yby Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I have been checking out craigslist on this and found someone selling campsites every for several weeks almost every single month in the summer. I don't know how they get this many spots. They are in the Bay area craigslist. I emailed them on the price and they said $120 a night. Yup, $120 dollars each night. Needless to say i have been flagging their posts. Wrong in so many ways.by Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I started doing that today also, but apperently it takes dozens of flags to remove an item. That is crap that these people purchase this sites and then sell them for a profit. I wrote one of the people selling them and asked to buy it for the listed price. They wrote me and said a minimum 100 bucks a night. These people need to be stopped. No wonder its a nightmare to get spots and these people aby Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I did ask this morning and they said i could cross the road and not need a second permit. However, if i am going to walk back to my car, or to the store to resupply etc etc, that would need another permit. Kind of hard to enforce, but i will take their word for it,i don't want to have to get another permit. If i can swing 4 days, what is it like hiking to glen aulin then over to may lake, back south to sunrise, and then out by cathedral lakes, looking at some old maps i have, is that a reasonable distance in four days.by Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I originally was going to backpack in the middle of July, however, i then changed that because of another trip. I was going to just camp in toulumne meadows and dayhike the 2 places i had not yet been (Caththedral lakes, glen aulin). They have not opened the campground to reservations yet and as it gets closer, i am thinking i would much rather have the peace and quiet in the wilderness. I have a trip coming up in Mid July and I am torn on what i should do. I normally tend to hit all of the hiking and backpacking south of Tioga Pass Rd. (I need to hike elsewhere other then Vogelsang every year) My original plan was to day hike to cathedral lakes (Never been there yet), and hit a few other spots i have never been. I also have been invited on a backpacking trip for two nights to Glby Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Water, Water, everywhere. Tioga Pass hikes are still rough, lots of snow and muddy conditions. But i have never seen as many waterfalls in the high country. The valley and the high country has water coming down everywhere, it is a sight to see.by Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I was just there and would recommend staying out of Wawona or Glacier Point Rd if you don't have a reason to be there. It took me well over 3 hours to wind my way from the valley to the Mariposa grove. Four times i was stopped and escorted by a construction vehicle in one lane through the mess, only to see four guys sitting down talking every time. Same for Glacier point. Thanks for the update. I am taking the wife camping next week, i really wanted to take her to Bodie for the first time. I was wondering if they would open up the road in time. I was hoping to take her on some of my favorite day hikes off tioga road, but did not plan on this much snow this year.by Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Any idea if this will affect camping. I am leaving next thursday the 10th for lower pines. Plan staying for the week. Flood levels always worry me that they will close camping spots.by Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I got the book and it is pretty good. I wish it was all yosemite but there are Some great stories. I'm in the third chapter and it is talking about a story chasing and arresting campers without a wilderness permit that ran from the ranger and having to put down an aggressive bear. It really gives an insider view and so far it is pretty good.by Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Looks interesting, I bought it on amazon (Thanks for posting it). I always thought being in law enforcement, that it would be fun to be a ranger and work at the place i love. I am sure this might change that or make it worse.by Roadrash - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
