I'm planing the JMT, Mammoth to Yosemite Valley and will be doing this solo. The origional plan was to park my car at Yosemite Valley and catch the shuttle bus to mammoth and just hike back. This has always worked from Toulumne to Yosemite. Yarts explains that the only bus leaving the Valley and heading to Mammoth departs at 5:00 PM, not 0500 am like I had heard. Any ideas on how to pull thisby soupman77 - General Discussion
Thanks. I think I'm going to tank the idea of using the Makalus, and use Vasque washatch..we will see how they work. On a side note, how many days would you figure for the JMT mammoth to happy isles section? I figured 5 days of good walking.by soupman77 - General Discussion
Im heading back to the JMT in July and was wondering if wearing my La Sportiva Makalus would be more or less suicide. I have been trolling around REI and noted the Oboz, but kind of wanted to wear what I had, please note, I am still breaking them. Anything will help.by soupman77 - General Discussion
I'm planning a hike from Mammoth to Yosemite Valley sometime in June or July. I know that the YARTS will take you from Yosemite to Mammoth, but don't know too much about Mammoth. Does anyone know about the JMT in Mammoth? Where does it meet and is the Post pile on the trail or near enough for a day hike. How much time to budget for the hike? I figured at least 7 days for the whole thing, witby soupman77 - General Discussion
the actual plan is to park at Yo Valley and take the bus up to Tuolumne and hike the JMT back down to the valley with a probably 2 day stop at sunrise and all points in between. from sunrise this is where the tenaya lake part comes in, it is kind of back tracking I guess. I figured that we would have a rest day then make the trip to tenaya, this is why I was wondering about the hike there.by soupman77 - General Discussion
yeah, keep hearing about those...but even in late aug?by soupman77 - General Discussion
so about the trail? yes or no.by soupman77 - General Discussion
oh, and she is carry most of her stuff, im carrying the majority of all of our gear.by soupman77 - General Discussion
I said the non-hiker part to give you the idea that she is not an avid hiker. Guess I should have painted a more understandable picture. As far as the trip it is down the JMT from Tuolumne Meadows to the Yo Valley and the Tenaya lake part is just a side note after about a day of rest. I thought that it would be nicer than just spending an extra day at the HSC. so, that being said, are you sayby soupman77 - General Discussion
thanks dude, by map it looks to be about 5 or 6 miles from the HSC to the Lake. so, from all of the pics, we are in for a treat. Thanks again.by soupman77 - General Discussion

I am planning a hike for my wife, non-hiker..., from Tuollumne Meadows via the JMT to Yosemite Valley, and thought of adding a day hike from Sunrise HSC to Tenaya lake. How is the terrain from Sunrise to Tenaya? I am aware of the area as far as probable switchbacks and up/down trails, but I am also a climber, where as my wife isnt. So has anyone done this trail, and could you please let me knoby soupman77 - General Discussion
