Went with some friends to Fantail Lake above Bennetville on 6-2. We carried snowshoes but didn't use them. Lots of snow patches but was consolidated enough, just took care walking. My guess is not much snow to the saddle or Gaylor Peak but a lot descending to and around the lakes.by grant1 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

The article is mostly accurate. There was a whole lot of money flowing, the climbers actually did leave tips and the Mountain Room was alive and hopping like never before. At the beginning the price was way cheaper than $400/lb.Free for a lot of waitresses willing to make up bunches of brownies in the Annex cabins across from C4.Before the mounties started coming around it was hard to escape the smeby grant1 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I've lived and played in the Sierras for forty years and never had to treat water. That doesn't mean I would'nt if I thought the water was bad.I carry enough water to get to what I believe is good water.More cautious now than in years past, sometimes that means carrying a gallon of water for my wife and I.Fresh snow melt in the high country with little chance of upsteam contamination seems easy toby grant1 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Nice to hear about the amphitheater,it is exceptional even for the valley. In the 70's the water works were not working. The pump house was gutted and the tank was topless and missing one or more side panels. There was water running thru the tank making it a good place to cool off on a hot day. There was a pool large enough to sit in.I'm wondering why they repaired it.by grant1 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
