Amen! Thanks for your comments. Imagine if the Dems held the country hostage over something like gun control. What would the Republicans say to that?!by nurcher - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
My husband and I did a quick overnighter to Ostrander Lake, thinking it would be a short uncrowded place to go the 3rd week of September. The hike up was very nice, not too steep at all through old burned areas and snapped off trees. I was surprised to see old asphalt on the trial, put down how long ago? There were wonderful views of the Clark range, Mt Star King and Half Domeby nurcher - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Here is a link to an episode from a good TV series called Motion. He and his brother are local guys from Bass Lake and the program features outdoor locales. This episode is great because it features Yosemite, solo and cross country. http://livewellnetwork.com/Motion/episodes/Yosemite-Solo-Hike/8886775by nurcher - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. At the end of a long hot day of hiking in the back country and finding a quiet section of lake or stream, dipping my pack towel in the cold water and placing it on my face, refreshing me with the surprise of the cold water and suddenly I'm a new person. I look at the mountains, the flowers, feel the breeze on my skin and the "energy flows through me" just like John Muir said. It's a wonby nurcher - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Loved it! A beautiful setting. We had hiked past it after staying at Smedberg a few years ago and vowed to come back. It was pretty empty of people too. We saw just 1 other party who we had been seeing everyday anyway. Had an Osprey fishing there too. Always a treat!by nurcher - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
We hiked parts of the "Haute Route" from Chamonix to Zermatt a few years ago. The Alps are spectacular and offer sooo many trails. But unlike the Sierra's, it's not wilderness. There are small villages, ski gondolas, huts all around. It's just a different mind set. I'd go back in a heartbeat!by nurcher - General Discussion
Chick-on, Upper Matterhorn is on my list. I like the East side approach to access YNP. Twin Lakes, Green Creek, Virginia Lakes are great! Seems easier to get a permit too.by nurcher - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

We just returned this week from a Northern Yosemite backpacking trip and here is a link to the pictures (i hope it works). We started at Green Creek trailhead and entered Yosemite at Summit Lake.
