My good friend Rob invited me up to Tuolumne Meadows this past weekend to climb, and I got a chance to be both scared and exhilarated at the same time. While the Meadows are starting to brown up a bit, the view from up high is spectacular over the granite and meadows and lakes. Hey, Mike. I have to admit I had never heard of Indian Rock, nor the arch that was there, and that's with 20 years of Valley visits under my belt! Believe it or not, compared to my usual hiking partner, I don't take that many pics! He'll come home from a weekend like this with upwards of 600 pics to sort thru, and narrow it down to 1/3 of that. Amazing. As for the recharging fluid, ab-so-LUTE-lby MooseTracks - General Discussion
Got this article in my e-mail today, which offers an 'eastern' perspective (and, yes, it's on topic). http://travel.latimes.com/articles/sns-trvmain1-wk3?single_page=y Enjoy. -L Post Edited (10-11-07 15:10)by MooseTracks - General Discussion
Some color changing in the Valley this past weekend, mostly in the canyons above the floor. I tried to zoom in from the rim when I could. Hope it helps gauge the full turning for y'all. Pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/moosepics621/sets/72157602335503438/ -Lauraby MooseTracks - General Discussion
Thanks to mrcondron for the beta regarding Indian Ridge. After a tough start at 4 a.m. Saturday (spotted some bright green eyes checking me out just past the stables that wouldn't scare off right away), ascended the trail near Snow Creek to reach the rim before sunrise. Snow level Saturday was about 5500ftm around switcher #79 or so. Primarily dusting, at deepest 2 inches along the trail. Becauseby MooseTracks - General Discussion
Hi, David! I hope the colors are changing nicely back in O-Hi-O! I can't wait to get back to the Valley tomorrow! -Lby MooseTracks - General Discussion
I'll be there this weekend, and plan on taking tons of pics (I always do!). You can check my flickr site by WEdnesday next week. -Lauraby MooseTracks - General Discussion
I was looking at the Eagle Peak portion as well, and I think I'll just have to play it by ear. I calculate about a 24 mile day with that, but I've heard the views from there are outstanding! I figure if I leave around 4 a.m. and put in 12-13 hard hours, I might be able to just pull it off! That and the motivation of a Cosmo at the Lodge might just do the trick! Love it! Thanks, Mike. -Lby MooseTracks - General Discussion
Sounds good, guys. Looks like I'll stick more to the trail! Don't know about the descent yet. It would be a nice stroll to cross that plateau and come down to meet my parents at the Lodge for drinks! -Lby MooseTracks - General Discussion
Thanks, Mike. Actually, that sort of mileage and gain was exactly what I was looking for. The topo seems to 'loosen' a bit in the vicinity of Indian Rock, which might be a fun cut-across as well. But the topo is no substitute for standing under a wet slab-face wondering where to find the line. Looks like all three points (Indian Rock, Basket Dome, and North Dome are the 'most' accessible from theby MooseTracks - General Discussion
Hi there. I'm planning a loop hike this Saturday above the Valley, and was wondering if anyone had climbed cross-country over Indian Ridge above North Dome. My plan is ascend Snow Creek from Mirror Lake/Meadow, but I'd like to know if I have to go all the way around the ridge to get across to North Dome. I might also try for Basket Dome if conditions permit. Any info/beta would be appreciated.by MooseTracks - General Discussion
