Correction, The Flickr series digital zoom, not Picasa web, appears to be cloud artifact:by Frank Furter - General Discussion
A possible line of sight does not validate the photo. How can El Capitan appear to be 1/3 the height of Half Dome when supposedly closer to the site of photographer, viewed from a lower elevation and at great distance? The appearance of Half Dome and El Capitan is more consistent with an aerial photo. In addition, the sharp line across middle ground representing the foothills add additional sby Frank Furter - General Discussion
What troubles me about the photo is the relation between Half Dome and the mountains behind it. If you look at these aerial shots of Half Dome, it would appear that the view of Half Dome from Patterson would more likely to have been taken from a plane in the West Portal area looking down onto Half Dome. The photos below are from the web attributed to photos from planes. for credit tby Frank Furter - General Discussion
Again, just because it can be done does not mean that it should. There are inherently problems with large groups. Dust, noise, resource overuse. I think 20 is a size that should be seriously questioned for the Half Dome hike in consideration of others. Radios are a good idea but they can also be a source of chatter and electronic noise in an area that should be considered primitive. Although feby Frank Furter - General Discussion

Do studded snow tires substitute for chains in California?by Frank Furter - General Discussion
My personal experience has been that the stuff left in boxes is safe. No guarantees in life of course. I have been more than a little miffed when I needed to store stuff and a box was locked. Seems rather selfish to lock a communal box, though I understand the concern.by Frank Furter - General Discussion
Traction devices are complicated and often vehicle specific. It is much easier to troubleshoot in your garage than at night on a snowy road. In the past, cables were supposed to rotate on the tire and tighteners were not recommended. However, I see that some now require tighteners. Traditional tire chains are a different animal, bulkier and may not fit many vehicles (especially front wheel driby Frank Furter - General Discussion

While we are on the subject of trail to Yosemite Falls, has the trail been improved from the valley to the falls? Some years ago (more than 15), it was in terrible condition with short cuts, washed out sections, poor drainage and in some parts essentially absent trail across steep traverses (hard on the ankles) especially in the lower section close to the valley floor.by Frank Furter - General Discussion

bill-e-g wrote: > It's not an eyesore like a lot of crap in the Valley. i.e. > Tent Cabins There are a lot of negative comments about Camp Curry. However, I would argue in favor of these. A lot of the population is just too old to sleep on the ground and the current campgrounds are more like parking lots.
