Looks nice and wintry.by Strix - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
From 'Laws Field Guide to the Sierra Nevada' it looks like Pennyroyal or Monardella. The bee might be Urban Anthophora. (Or not.)by Strix - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Nice Grizz wideo. That's the porcupine paw Grizz from this spring. Notice he is walking on his right 'wrist' because his paw was full of quills. Wonder how he is doing.by Strix - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Yes, Black Diamond Mines near Pittsburg is an interesting place to visit, esp. in the Spring. For an interesting historical fiction read set in the area check out 'The Green Age of Asher Witherow' by M. Allen Cunningham.by Strix - General Discussion
That is a great video. Looks like she is getting by, hope her paw is getting better. The ranger's voice in the background is a nice touch. My friends on this Yellowstone chat would really appreciate this. Have you seen this page? http://www.yellowstoneupcloseandpersonal.com/wwwboard/chat.htmby Strix - General Discussion
Did anyone post a link to the live web cam? If not here is the static cam. It shows an estimated time of eruption. You can scroll down and click on the 'New' Live Streaming.....OF. http://www.nps.gov/archive/yell/oldfaithfulcam.htmby Strix - General Discussion
Quotey_p_w A good metaphor is of a garden hose (OF) compared to a fire hydrant (Giant). And Steamboat sounds like a broken steam pipe in a power plant.by Strix - General Discussion
Is that the one with the porcupine quills in his right front paw? It looks like he is standing on his wrist instead of his foot pad. Lucky you to be in Yellowstone.by Strix - General Discussion
After Thanksgiving to check out the improvements. I miss the trees.by Strix - General Discussion
That was good, but where was the rockfall over the road? The 140 entrance area?by Strix - General Discussion
Yeah, I almost added "or close to". Nice hike, especially if you find the right route. I was up there last May.by Strix - General Discussion
Early morning Saturday, March 28, a large rockfall ocurred near Half Dome. (Ahwiyah Point?). http://climbing.about.com/b/2009/03/30/yosemite-rockfall-near-half-dome.htmby Strix - General Discussion
As vdrummer's photos show, this may be easier to visualise looking out from the top of Half Dome. This can be done using GoogleEarth. Tilt and rotate your view so you are looking over HD and down the valley. Adjust so you are at 8800 ft. and the top of HD almost touches the horizon. A large swath of the central valley is in view and if you travel out on that heading you will find yourself near Tuby Strix - General Discussion

We were TM campground last weekend (Fri.-Mon.), and three of six got food poisoning like symptoms. On Monday, while hiking to May Lake, we talked to someone coming out who said several people had been very sick and the staff were engaged with extra thorough cleaning. Is there any more info on this? Anything from the park service?by Strix - General Discussion
We are just back from a few nights at TM campground and, of course, had a great time. The campground did not fill up on Friday night nor (I think) Saturday night. Variable smoke haze, but mostly clear. A serious T-storm, including heavy hail, on Sunday at TM, but it didn't bother us on our Mono Pass hike. Gas was 5.05 at TM or Crane Flat.by Strix - General Discussion
Whoa! Nice Beehive shot. Wish I were there.by Strix - General Discussion
Thanks Bruce. The pic is from my birthday hike in mid May. A very nice view point.by Strix - General Discussion
I found this while browsing the historic maps link in another thread. Lots of other interesting stuff there too. Yosemite: the Park and its Resources (1987) by Linda W. Should be pretty straight forward. Maybe some snow on the North side of Buena Vista Peak. Start early; your first day will be hot and uphill. And watch for rattlesnakes on your first day too. I almost stepped on one below Chil. Falls once. Sounds like fun.by Strix - General Discussion
