I've done this trip many times and as I expect Tioga Road to be open first of October I recommend this route: Las Vegas - Death Valley - Lone Pine - Bishop - Lee Vining - Tioga Road - Yosemite Valley (or whereever you friend wants to go - plenty of options in Yosemite). Leaving from Las Vegas he could stock up with water, food and supplies in Pahrump (there's a Walmart Superstore on the lefby Half Dome Hiker - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotenurcher But unlike the Sierra's, it's not wilderness. There are small villages, ski gondolas, huts all around. Exactly! And let's not forget zillions of people, trams, regulations and whatnot. The Alps (as most parts of Europe except Scandinavia) are heavily overpopulated. Not fun at all. Unless you are a wordclass mountaineer it is very hard to find solitude. Quoteg6t6o What a great trip! Got hit by a bear our first night on Ireland Creek, woke up to one not 10 feet away, checking out my pack. Wow! Sounds like a great trip. Luckily no one got harmed (except the pack that is ).by Half Dome Hiker - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotetomdisco A year or two ago Craig at TM Wilderness Office said there were over 3,000 fire rings recorded via GPS in Yosemite. Many of them were not legal. 3,000 fire rings??! That is just a sick number.by Half Dome Hiker - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Frankly speaking most of the men on that first picture don't look like Indian miners to me. Also I find it highly unlikely that there's been a peaceful coexistence between Native American and those searching for treasure and gold coming from the east. How reliable is the mentioned source (Phillips)?! Are there more sources covering this issue?! I also have a hard time to believe that a substaby Half Dome Hiker - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. In his book he says ...where I would sleep on top of 11000 foot Triple Peak Pass at the very borders of Yosemite... Triple Divide Peak is 11,611 ft. high and it's also at the very border of YNP. As I said: Thanks for the great report. You know I mean it. I didn't say "Gimme something else.". Ah, ok. "Little" in this case means a decent DSLR-body with 24 MPix. I was afraid you were using a point'n'shoot-digicam. In that case I would have dumped my camera equipment. Nice cameras you have. Great for landscape photography. But where I usually go it is impossible to take such equipment with me (think canyoneering, long desert hikes where water is more important etc.). When I read this on their blog "We were very uncomfortable with the bear’s AGGRESSIVE behavior..." I immediately put them in the idiot category. How rude of the bear to interfere with their business. I really don't like these kind of people. They think they are cool...PCT hikers and stuff...but they are not. Thanks for the info. I feel ashamed seeing this pictures. Very embarrassing - especially the "hunting scene" and Laycock's valley portrait. Yes, it might be artistic license and times were different then but it's embarrassing nevertheless. However it is remarkable to find Native Americans displayed in those pictures. And I would call none of these artists "masters". This haby Half Dome Hiker - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Yes, I couldn't agree more. Yosemite Falls are nice but there is much more out there and Vernal Fall is a good recommendation. Plenty of good stuff to do if time is limited: hike Sentinel Dome or Lembert Dome - both are easy plus rewarding if you don't have the time for longer hikes. I never understood what's all the fuzz about the Ahwahnee. It's totally overpriced, it's not a real luxurious hotel compared to a real five star hotel, the food is so-so at best and why would you need a luxurious hotel in surroundings like Yosemite anyway?! Is it beautiful?! Yawn...don't think so. But I agree: compared to other things it is relatively unobstrusive. A couple of other real goodby Half Dome Hiker - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
