Biking is one of the better ways to enjoy Yosemite. In general there are bike paths (which at times on the east end are shared with shuttle buses) that will take you all the way from Yosemite Lodge in the west to Happy Isles and Mirror Lake in the east. A really nice ride that gets you away from traffic and crowds is from Awahnee Meadow up to the back side of the Awahanee hotel (you cross two briby mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quotemrcondron I've heard from reliable sources that it will be open this weekend. Thanks for the laugh....If they get it open by Memorial Day weekend it'll be quite a feat! Quoteeeek Quoteemily2k does anyone know if there are 2 bear lockers at the double sites? i looked at the pictures at yosemitecampsites.com and i only see 1. Dbl-2 and dbl-3 appear to have 2 bear boxes. Dbl-1 looks like it only has one. The "notes" under the site description for DBL 1 on the reservation site say it has 2; apparently DBL 1 is two adjoining sites with a walkway joininby mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quoteeeek Quotecamper68I suggest walking around and keeping note of which campsites that have long driveways that may work for you. Take note of the approaches too. Some driveways may be long enough but don't have room to make the turn into them. This is why the NPS sometimes shows a 12 ft. trailer limit in a 28ft. deep, double wide driveway, site. Send an email to the reservation system website (look under"contact us". They will cancel the permits. They also notify the website (Craigslist, Ebay, etc). and have them cancel the ad. At least this is the way they do it for people trying to sell campsite reservations. There was a previous post about this if I remember correctly.by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. The reservation website now shows that on 4/13 they will post an opening date for April/May (for dates before 5/16) sites that have been blocked out (probably making them available on the 4/15 buy date). They will probably still keep some of the river sites off the sytem due to projected floodingby mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I had been keeping an eye on that week because way back in January I noticed that it was blocked off for the 1/15 buy date. I contacted NPS and they said they had blocked it off due to scheduled road work. They also said that they would put it back on the system if they got the road work done earlier. I never saw any type of notice that they were going to put it back on but I was keeping an eyeby mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Why Half Dome? It's simple, because what other rock can you climb in Yosemite that has a T-shirt that you can buy to commemorate your endeavor! All the gift shops have T-shirts saying that you climbed Half Dome! There are no shirts honoring going to the top of Clouds Rest, etc. I know that sounds too simple of an explanation as to "Why Half Dome", but it almost makes sense......by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I've seen that line. If you are doing this during the summer plan to be in line at 5 a.m. And, if you are lucky and get a Valley site, plan to do this every morning you are there as usually you'll only get a site for one night at a time.by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
It's 99% luck, the other 1% is being prepared and knowing how the system works. Some things I've learned over the years is to know ahead of time which site is available when, go for midweek, and have handy a clock with a second hand that is lined up exactly with the official internet clock.
