The double sites will accommodate all of your mentioned equipment and cars. The chance of getting two separate sites next to each other on the 2/15 buy date is a about one in a million. Go for one of the double sites.by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Had a bad experience also with the Sierra Club guys once too. Was asleep in a campground and at 5:30 a.m.and they pulled into a cleary marked campsite next to me, with multiple vehicles, to do a day hike. Now they, better than most ,should know that campsites are not for day use. And how does the wilderness experience include waking up people in a campground at 5:30 a.m.? They all got out and taby mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Tried to get the first week of June in Lower Pines. Sold out but got a river campsite for the last week of May and was very happy with that (#43). But then my daughter informs me that her boyfriend's college graduation is May 25, right in the middle of our trip. Argh!! Back to the drawing board....by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I'll answer my own question. Found out from N.P.S. that there will be a road sealing project going on then. It can only be done in warm weather, thus the May dates. They'll try to do it in April instead if the weather cooperates.by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
In 1997 during those January rains the snow level from those storms was about 10,000 feet. They are predicting 7,000 feet for these storms. Hopefully that 3,000 foot difference will significantly lessen the danger of another valley flood like they had in 1997. Yet it looks like there is a significant amount of precipitation on its way for many days. Hunker down!by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
This morning opened up campground reservations for April and May. However the first week of May was not available in Upper Pines and the second week of May was not available in Lower Pines. Looks like those these campgrounds will be closed for those dates, yet open before and after those dates. Anybody know why? I heard they were re-paving campground roads in March and April.by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Always rises at sunset? I think they call that one the "Harvest Moon", usually in the fall months. Could be wrong. Any Astronomy type people want to jump in on this?by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
How far down is it going to snow? All the way to the ground!! Sorry, I couldn't resist that one. Used to live in Mammoth and when the flatlanders would ask us that question that was our answer...Anyways check out Yosemite Association's web cams and you'll see that it did and probably will snow some more in the valley. Have fun! Tomby mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The camping reservations phone center is out of state, Utah I think. There must be some campgrounds or campground access roads that are going to be affected which may make some campgrounds or campsites affected during this time (closed), so they might not have a handle on when they can open these sites for the spring, and thus don't want to reserve sites at this time that may not be available inby mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Anybody have a reading on the fall colors in the Valley this year?. Normally they peak the last week of October but Sierra colors peaking seem to be about a week later this year. A good reading is the Oak Tree grove along Yosemite creek south of Hump Back bridge near the Superintendents old residence. Winds have stripped the Eastern Sierras of leaves, but how does it look in the Valley?by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
We were there on 6/7. Campsite 62 in Lower Pines was flooded that day, also a lot of Housekeeping camp. But yesterday's peak was about a foot less than that date but still very high for October. Noticed a significant rise of the river on the Happy Isles cam the last 24 hrs.by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Pizza at Camp Curry was always a treat for us campers, the quality varied, but man has the price gone up in the last couple years. Used to be a good deal to feed the family, bot now it's pretty expensive. Is the cross dresser still hanging around the Pizza Patio at night? Anybody who's seen him will know what I'm talking about. The Mobil near my house here in Thousand Oaks was $3.23 on 7/2, but In Lone Pine and Big Pine Mobil was $3.19! Bishop's Giggle Springs gas station was $3.09. I agree that 395 is more interesting a drive, and because of how slow 41 and 120 in the park will be you're better off with 395. But gas up no later than Bishop as the price starts going up north of there.by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
