Just got back from camping in Yosemite Valley (5 nights, Lower Pines). Monday and Tuesday nights the river was quite high, over its banks in most places.. Swinging Bridge was closed as the water was just about to crest it. Campsite 62 was a river and a number of sites in North Pines were flooded. Falls all over the place and some flooding in some of the meadows. But by the time we left Friday tby mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteRoadrash Any idea if this will affect camping. I am leaving next thursday the 10th for lower pines. Plan staying for the week. Flood levels always worry me that they will close camping spots. What is your site number?by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I'm going there tomorrow for 5 days, in Lower Pines. Looks like highest levels of river are to be Sun night to Tues morning and then it appears to be forecast to gradually go down from there. NPS a few days ago said most of Lower Pines will be probably be ok, but they are worried about sites 60 to 64. They keep 62 off the system til about the middle of June just for this reason. 63 is an asst.by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Any idea on how the Pohono Bridge guage relates to the Sentinel bridge gauge? That is if Pohono shows 9 ft. what would Sentinel show at the approximate same time frame?by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Does anyone know if the water level marker at Sentinel bridge reflects closely the water level guage at Pohono bridge? In other words if the guage at Pohono shows 9 ft. will the gauge at Sentinel reflect about 9 ft. also, or is Sentinel a different measuring system? thanks, Tomby mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Just remember that the official Park take on this is that if you can't fit your rig into the spot they have no obligation to find you another spot.by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I received an official ruling from the Park service on this. If you can fit it in there, you're good. Of course you have to stay on the paved pad with all of your equipment and conform to all of the other campground rules i.e. number of vehicles per site, number of people, etc. The trailer length rules were based on how long of a trailer a "novice" could back into the site. Hey Pine Cone, thanks for that (new to me) site on pics. of campsites. I had only known of the one campsite pictures site mentioned above before. Once again I'm baffled at why this site is listed as 12 foot trailers only. As I said before I put my 24 ft. trailer in there many years ago. Maybe the reservation service transposed the numbers and it was supposed to be 21 ft. instead of 12 feet? I knoby mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Does anybody know why this site, per the reservation system, has a 12 ft. max. trailer length restriction? It's a double wide driveway which is 34 feet long. I remember years ago putting a 24 ft. trailer in there along with a mini motor home, and an Expedition. Doesn't make sense.by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I like the stink bomb idea. I think I've seen this exact complaint on a post last year but yes these situations need to be dealt with immediately upon the complaint. I really have a problem with campground hosts not doing their job as far as enforcing the rules. They get a free campsite and other perks for the summer but seem to shy away from patrolling and enforcing the campground rules.by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Good, happy for you. Trying to get a site in Lower Pines that time of year is extremely tough, let alone for your size rig. So I take it this site is going to work out after seeing the pics. from 4x4?by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Half the fun of camping in theValley is watching people try to back in oversized vehicles into a campsite and I'm sure I have on an occasion entertained a few neighbors myself. But knocking down a campsite marker...never done that.by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
As far as backing your rig in I don't think you will have any problem because there is no "maximum trailer length warning" on the description of site 50. Some site descriptions on the reservation website have this warning because rangers a few years ago checked out every campsite and took into account the backing up approach to each campsite. In the description of site 50 there is no wby mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Normally if the approach to the driveway of a site is too tight (as far as backing in goes) they usually put a "maximum trailer length" alert on the site descripion. There is not one on this site so it sounds like you should be able to back it in just fine. When in June are you going? I actually have the site next to you (47) on 6/10, (after we will have moved out of another site whiby mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Look at the photo for site 55 and it will give you a little more idea of what that your site looks like. 55 is right behind your site and the photo looks back at your site (note the motor home in site 50). What is the length of you trailer? 50 is a pretty large site as it is a double wide driveway with a depth of 33 feet for each side and no obstructions right behind it so if you have a super lonby mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I don't know about National Parks but at Forest Service campgrounds in their long list of rules posted on the info board, if you read through all of them, under audio devices, I believe it says something like audio devices should not be played in a manner that can be heard in other campsites, or something like that. I was camped in Lower Pines next to a rental RV last June (The worst generator users are RENTAL rv's) and he ran it continuosly in the afternoon right up to dinner time. A rangerette came by with a big smile on her face welcoming us to our campsite and gave us the usual bear rules etc. I listened patiently and when she was finished I said: "Do you hear that?" pointing to my neighbors moby mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
