The geology of the Sierras is really interesting. When I hiked up Whitney back in the 70's the elevation was listed as 14 ,496 ft. Now it's listed at 14505. This will put a damper on the early trout opener in the Lone Pine/Independence area next weekend, but hopefully will extend the trout season into the summer in the mountain streams. Rain baby rain (Snow baby snow!) Quotey_p_w Didn't look too carefully when I made the reservation, and I booked an "RV NONELECTRIC" site. I checked my reservation again today. I was wondering about it since I tried to modify the reservation and a tent equipment option wasn't available. I tried searching for sites with the tent equipment option, and my site didn't show up. Quotey_p_w I managed to get my first choice campsite at Lower Pines this morning. Nothing terribly complicated either. We normally camp (24ft. trailer) in the Valley so we bring our own food and the wife does most of the cooking. That way we get food we are used to and don't have to rely on the DNC to give us food. We do break away from the camp one night and go to the Curry Pizza porch, not so much to be looking for a good Pizza, but to enjoy the ambience of the Pizza Porch and the people watching. If you are up in the Bridgeport area take a drive up to Mono Village on the west end of Upper Twin Lake. Besides a store and cabins and a campground and boat rentals and a beach and great fishing they have a café there. Prices are good and the food is good. Add to the nice list (for us Valley campers): Those fellow campers who when they realize you are doing a solo camping night come over and invite you to their campsite for dinner. Add to the naughty ones: Those who play their loud obnoxious music in their campsite next to you ( or 5 campsites over); and add to the good guys: The rangers who tell these same people that if someone in the next cby mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quotemswscco In the past, North Pines had some sites close to the river or creek that could not be reserved at all until the park knew they would not be flooded. Right now, however, it seems like all sites can already by reserved. Did something change, or are they just certain that none of the flooding will take place until after the currently available window (5/16/14)?
