I would hike on foot...but that's just me. Sorry, couldn't help it...it's Monday!by Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
It was a handheld camera, not much better than a camera phone. Even an amateur like me takes a good shot once in a while. It happens a lot more often in Yosemite because the scenery is so awesome.by Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I think the North Dome hike is doable with the scenario you provided. As long as you are a decent navigator and you're not out of your comfort zone, you'll be fine. There's a wonderful campsite at the saddle below the dome if you were to stay the night. Both the morning light and evening light were spectacular when I stayed there. No wind for my visit, either. We got lucky with great weathby Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Don't mind the nit pick at all...thanks for the info. Just thought it was cool and kind of related. The kids love watching the pro's at work. We couldn't help but wonder if it was a good thing, or a bad thing, that it returned empty? We opted for good!by Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Hi Everyone, What a wonderful weekend. The weather was perfect and even though it was free entry weekend, it was not totally overrun. Crowded, but not "July" crowded. The Lunch spot winner from the weekend was the Upper bathtub (Devils Bathtub?) at the Royal Arches Cascade. We rode from the Upper Pines CG to Yosemite Falls and played in the mist for a while then headed back andby Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
My kids got to enjoy the rescue helicopter landing in the Ahwahnee Meadow. As far as we could tell there was no immediate emergency. This was Friday around noon.by Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thank you all for your input. I've been to Sierra Point, and while I plan to visit again, I don't think we'll do lunch there. My brother also suggested the cascade above the Ahwahnee. That is looking to be my first choice at the moment. I assume it will be flowing nicely after the recent rains and hot weather. However, if the weather is right, The El Cap meadow may be the best choice. Gonby Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I suppose I should have made it "picnic lunch" in the subject line. Oh well, too late now. Besides, we all know the Curry Pizza deck wins, hands down.by Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Hi Everyone! I'm taking my family this weekend for a low impact/slow pace style vacation in the valley. I have a few good ideas about where I think I'd like to go for a nice picnic lunch with a view, but I'm curious what you forum dwellers might come up with. Here's the criteria: 1) Must be in or near the valley. (I'd like to ride bikes from Upper Pines to the beginning of the hike) 2by Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Good Topic! Stick with the basic Coleman Stove!!!! I wish I had a picture of my beat-up, green Coleman camp stove. It's vintage 1980's and has a nice crust of meals past that have been burnt into its inner skin. Some call it gross, I call it seasoned. The stove has been through hell and fires up every time. Never a repair! Everyone on this forum has probably owned at least one of tby Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I couldn't help but add my favorite from this summer! I can't believe I missed this thread. Better late than never. I'm getting all worked up over my first trip up there for 2012! I SURE LOVE THIS FORUM!!!!! Vogelsang Lake, July 2007. For me, it's seeing the people I love in the places that I love that makes a good photo!by Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Yay! Free entry!! It looks like most of the special events happen on the first weekend. I have a campsite in the valley during that time so it looks like I got lucky. I had no Idea. I feel kinda guilty. Will they let me pay anyway.....lol. This will be the first time in a long time, I am going to the park with no real plans in mind. I voted for Pothole Dome because of the ease of the hike. If she is a girly girl like you say, go for low impact and high reward. It's an easy hike and it would be easy to find a secluded spot overlooking the meadow. I have always thought this was a really special place. A short hike over to where the Tuolumne River starts it's cascade would be a nice side adventure too. I've taken my famiby Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I absolutely love that the trail is unmarked. I have been going to this spot since 1980, when my Dad brought me there for the first time. The picture that plawrence helped me post is a recreation of a picture I have with my dad from when I was the same age as my son (30 something years ago). Let's try another pic to see if I can get it right! Before leading a group of scouts on a back country trip, we had time for one short hike in the valley. This was it. More than half the kids in the group had never been to the valley before. Crazy!by Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
In my experience, during the peak times, the line for FCFS starts forming long before sunrise (sometimes the night before as people sleep in line) and can be too long for any hope of getting a site before you know it. I have never tried for Camp 4, but Curry Village and Tuolumne Meadows can be had if you have the time and patience to get there early and post up in line! As I see it, It will take you roughly 4 to 4.5 hours to drive there. If you land during peak traffic hours it could add up to an hour to your travel time. If you count in stops for food and provisions, I would plan on 5-6 hours as being realistic. It seems like you are worried that the permit station will close for the day before you can get there to pick up your "late-arrival"by Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I really appreciate all the comments. I prefer to camp in solitude if possible so I'll stay away from the summit. I always seem to come up with a nice spot, regardless. I like the Old Dude's suggestion to set up at the creeklet. I will seriously consider this. As for the dinners at the HSC's...they are all a bit different, and it depends on what your tastes are. Thanks for the advice! We'll probably do just that. Stop and play at Lake #1 then camp closer to the HSC at Lake #3. I would have normally passed up the HSC but this is the last one on my list. About a week ago,on a whim, I sent an e-mail requesting meals only for 4 on any Saturday that Sunrise would be open for the season and got lucky. Wow, I love your video. Thanks for that! I'm not sure of our plan after sunset. I imagine it will all depend on our campsite for the night. I have heard descriptions of campsites back towards Tenaya, but I imagine I'll find my own spot after some scouting. I'd be interested if you saw anywhere near the summit block you would have liked to camp? Either way, I expect to be down off the suby Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
