Even I have done the Pothole approach, and I have to be one of the laziest hikers around (meaning that I easily opt out of technical stuff for no other reason than being lazy) Nothing much technical about it (that I recall) A small amount of friction maneuvers, a couple of hand-steadying touches, but the route is quite nice.by Bee - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Yup. Out backpacking in the park as everyone else gets their fix reading about it. Olde Dude & the bird are out finishing Od's last few untrodden trails. Posting/uploading pix can become timeconsuming; sometimes folks take a break.by Bee - General Discussion
There must be some sort of disconnect regarding the "Olde Dude" Pass usage at some National Monuments. I took a 3 week trip through over a dozen parks one year, and the only time we had problems with the pass was at a National Monument (I had to break out the manual that shows the pass is good for Nat'l Monuments, too)by Bee - General Discussion

Okay, thanks guys -- it all makes sense, now. I was thrown by the ledge "stopping" him part of the article, as if he would have kept falling. He probably wished that he had bypassed that ledge!by Bee - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I lived and worked in Italy over a 5 year period, and I cannot say enough nice things about the healthcare system (cannot say anything nice about how folks are unable to que up, though!) So many medications are available over the counter + you can see a doctor almost immediately if you have any sort of mishap (anybody been to "Emergency" in the US, lately???) I also used to race bby Bee - General Discussion
I am not a rock climber, so I am confused by something mentioned in the article: It said that the victim was 15ft above an anchor point, but yet he fell 30ft (he may have fallen further had he not been stopped by the ledge he landed on?) Is it common to have that much slack in the rope....was he using a rope??by Bee - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Well, come to think of it: my info is by way of Olde Dude, and sometimes the bird torments him......so OD might be streaming false information. Note that OD isn't offering up any updates? Watch out if he starts raving about the pizza!by Bee - General Discussion
He's Fine. He's busy (out backpacking with Old Dude as I write) We should all be too busy to postby Bee - General Discussion

They call this scum "pot hunters" on the Rez. Thieves of Time (a title of a Tony Hillerman book on this topic) have been ravaging archeological sites for time eternal, however, there seems to be a bold uptick as of late. With all of the cutbacks, I see no improvement on the part of law enforcement.by Bee - General Discussion

QuoteTorero14 I'm guessing they were trying to get rid of their bright red selection. I simply sent it back to Mammut and they replaced it with the color of my choice--just paid shipping. I have a whole collection of "color overruns" that are really high quality, cost almost nothing.....if one can learn to love the color "green apple"! Oh, wow -- I was obsessed with the show Emergency! when I was a kid (totally in love with "Johnny" I loved it when the Universal Studios characters would cross over into the other series. We watched Sierra, but as a pushishment for terrorizing the mean girl across the street, I was banished to my room when the ultimate episode came on (Johnny & Roy go to the park) I ended up listeninby Bee - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Follow the money, as the saying goes. You have to shut down the demand to dry out the supply (much like they are trying to do with the ivory trade) This is different spin on an old problem, as it reminds me of the article that I read about the petrified wood state park that had to be shut down (because there was no petrified wood left on the premesis; it had all been hauled out for sale or priby Bee - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Wow. I missed the sign-up for having my pack carried! Nice. Actually, having an athletic background, I was the one always carrying other people's stuff (especially for my sister; it was the only way that I could get her to go hiking)by Bee - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
