That is correct - from the last weekend of November until the middle of March, all sites are non-reservable, walk-in only. It's been this way for a few years, I don't know when it changed. The number of available sites varies throughout the winter, regulated by the various gates they open and close. The back half is entirely closed. The first few loops will open and close depending upon snoby QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Not that I really care about what folks have to say about this stuff, but today Phil Bronstein, the former editor of the SF Chronicle, weighed in on some of their nasty anon feedback: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/07/25/EDVU1KDSBE.DTLby QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. That's a sad story. I had heard mention of it but had yet to learn the details. There's an unfortunately long list of climbers who have been killed up in auto accidents. When I head up to the mountains, I tell my mom (and remind myself) that the drive is the most dangerous part of the journey. I tell her she also needs to be careful and I hope all her drives go safely.by QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

"Offending" is an unusual choice of word to apply to a tree. Plenty of things offend me, like people in El Monte RV's, but the poor thing ain't trying to bother nobody, it's just sitting there growing. It ain't running no stinking generator, it's quietly generating sweet O2. I understand the underlying sentiment, a quick shave is better than a death of one thousand cuts. That's the fun part! I wasn't trying to scare you. Or was I? Maybe a little bit? Well, honestly my buddy was a little sketched on those slabs, and he's a "climber." Thanks for that explanation. To be honest, I was having a problem figuring out that logic as well. Didn't notice "Switch View." And I do computer stuff for a living - go figure. QuoteOhnivy-DrakI'm not recommending that someone do this, but comparatively speaking - if you must go in, at least give yourself a chance. Tie one end of a rope around your waist, and the other end around a tree. It doesn't mean your foot can't get stuck between some rocks, perhaps causing you to drown.... Head up the rockpile behind the stables, stay to the left and soon a use trail appears. When you reach the bench, head west, turn a corner with one rock climbing move. Stay close to the edge; there are trails that head up into what looks like safer ground but they are dead ends. I wouldn't argue with that. So should I just give up? That sounds more like a possibility. Just thinking through this: a scalper's ad can be prohibited either at the moment of posting or taken down via the flagging process. From what I can tell, most of the scalping of Yosemite campsites and Half Dome permits is currently being facilitated by Craigslist. Ebay seems to have cracked down.
