Hi, Unfortunately I am no longer able to travel to the US and it has been 5 years since I have been to Yosemite (or in the Sierra Nevada). I still try to follow what's going on in Yosemite, the Sierra Nevada, Utah, Nevada and Arizona as much as I can. I found this and I think it's neat: https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/a8e39c18f17541668e635c4be46768a5 In a nutshell (taken fby Half Dome Hiker - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Hi, Some of you have probably read that my longtime awaiting return to the US last month was not very fortunate. Things in my life won't be good anytime soon and therefore I will have to cancel my reservation for the Yosemite Valley Lodge. Reservation is for 1 night on the 4th of June, 2019 for a 1 Queen Bed room (accessible). If one of you wants to take over please send me a PM. I understand your thoughts on Bishop. My visit to Holy Smoke BBQ was one of the very few highlights of my trip. Big Bubba + 1/2 rack of ribs. As we have nothing like this here (and I haven't fired up my smoker in 3 years due to the current circumstances) I enjoyed so much after this long waiting. However...Bishop and surroundings has really a lot to offer if you like to enjoy a bit of ancientby Half Dome Hiker - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
My long awaited return to the US has not been under good stars. I have only been briefly to Yosemite and even had to cut my stay short 4 days to return to Europe. Some of you maybe remember my thread about Skyrock near Bishop and I have been to it 4 times now. During my brief visit I took the opportunity to look for more rockart as the Eastern Sierra Nevada is full of traces of the ancient peoby Half Dome Hiker - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Once more...thanks guys! I've decided to skip Medlicott Dome as it doesn't seem easy to get on top/find the right trail and I don't want to waste my few precious hours in Yosemite after such a long wait getting lost or scrambling up the wrong route (I don't mind scrambling if it takes me to the right place ). I've got GaiaGPS with all the maps but I have rarely used GPS before and I know you sby Half Dome Hiker - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Alright, so where is the real Medlicott Dome? And please keep in mind that I haven't hiked in 3 years and arrive from sea level. So all hikes will be hard for me. I remember the last time when I got a chance to visit Yosemite on short notice...long flight (20+ hrs), arrival from sea level the night before, 20 lbs. heavier than now plus a 35 lbs. backpack with photo stuff....choose Lembert Domeby Half Dome Hiker - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Hi, After more than 3 years I will be able to return to beloved Yosemite. Due to unfortunate events and an ongoing medical issue in my family I didn't have many opportunities to spend time in the Sierra Nevada in the last 8 years. But...I'm coming back now and I'd like to spend as much time outdoors as possible. I will fly in from Europe to the US at the end of the month, drive from the baby Half Dome Hiker - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Yes, the well known places are crowded. Not much we can do about that as everybody wants to see it although most of them don't see much more than the parking lots + 100 yds walking. The Southwest offers ENDLESS places of great solitude and spectacular surroundings. It surely matches the Sierra Nevada and frankly because of the diversity of the landscape it has more to offer if you would like tby Half Dome Hiker - General Discussion

Thanks for the nice pictures. I am really concerned that the Sierra Nevada already looks bonedry. I am following some hikers on Youtube that are on the PCT and although there is some snow on the passes in the section between Kennedy Meadows and Tuolumne Meadows it looks really bad (and of course nothing compared to last year). Stunning El Cap photo! As I'm from Europe I'm used to those gas prices. Cheapest price for a gallon of regular today in my neighborhood was US$5.65 and it was way over US$6 not too long ago (and I live near one of the largest cities around so lots of gas station competition (in theory)). Thank you, looks like you had fun. I love the pictures of your North Dome trip with those great clouds (I used to do landscape photography but never was lucky with such a dramatic sky during my North Dome trips). I hope that very much too. He seems to be a very calm guy and not necessarily an "attention seeker" like some who fell to their death. I can't really make a judgement as I know none of them personally. But there are certainly differences, e.g. initially I was impressed by Dean Potter but was very upset when he climbed on Delicate Arch. Let's hope the best for all of them.
