Hi everyone, I am going to Yosemite this coming weekend but I completely did not realize they opened Upper Pine Campsite reservation after Feb 11 until now. Now, I see all campsites are booked Can someone give me a suggestion of where to find a campsite? I probably arrive at 2pm on Saturday. Thanks.by yang - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Hi jvieiram and everyone, I just got some time to report back my trip. Sorry for the delay. My wife and I made to Glacier Point! We had a lot of fun there. I have to admit that snowshoeing 10 miles a day is not that easy. Our itinerary was: Day 1, started at about 2PM from badger to the Bridalveil creek campground about 3 miles. If I do it again, I would just camp somewhere not far from theby yang - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
ttilley, chick-on and JustKeepWalking thanks again for the good information. I have Bearikade also and will take it. It seems a lot of snow these days. I cannot wait for Friday.by yang - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Hi guys, I just called the Ranger Station and learned that in winter I am not required to carry bear canister. This is a good news to me but also a little surprise as I thought bear canister is always needed. When you guys go there do you carry bear canister? Thanks again and happy holiday. Great Info. Thanks everyone. I have done Dewey once and totally agree that the view was stunning.by yang - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Hi everyone, I am planning a trip for Christmas long weekend to snowshoe (no ski) from Badger Pass to Glacier Point. It would be two nights camping. I live in LA. Considering the driving time, I feel like 21 mile for 3 days is probably not practical. Has anyone done this trip? What is your experience? Thanks, Yangby yang - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Hi everyone, I am thinking of a weekend backpacking trip to camp at Upper Cathedral Lakes. As far as I know this should be a popular location. Do you guys know if the permit is really hard to obtain? How do you guys usually get it? By walking or apply online? Thanks, Yangby yang - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Nice photo Chris! Thanks for sharing. Can you tell me where you took it? What lens and camera?by yang - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
This is the best I got on 2/16/2014. There were probably a hundred photographers standing there. However, when the sun went to the last minute, it just faded out. I'd like to see if anybody got better photos on that day.by yang - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Guys, I almost left until i saw this message. So I went back to the picnic area to check again. After I put my 400mm lens, man! I definitely saw it was flowing! I waited till the sunset but it did not turn golden today...by yang - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Thanks Plawrence. You were right that regardless the it was flowing or not, the light was great. It is amazing that the it only lit such a narrow stripe.by yang - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I have been thinking about a year to see the horsetail fall in Feb. I bet the fall is not flowing now. I cross my fingers and hope we could get some snow in next a few weeks.by yang - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I was there last weekend. From valley floor to upper fall, there was no ice or snow. It was like summer time but no crowds. The fall is flowing but not much water. Please see my update in the link chick-on posted. Also chick-on, thanks so much for the help.by yang - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks everyone! I'd like to provide an update of the condition between Jan 18-20, 2014 after we just finished the hike. Expectedly it was same as everyone mentioned. The weather was extreme mild. The day time temperature got as high as 80 degrees under the sun. The first night we camped at Yosemite Creek. The night temporatature was about 24 degree. There is no snow at all. Thanks chick-on. I will do as you said. I cannot wait to go there.by yang - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I was looking at the web cam today. But not sure if the upper falls are running. I think it does but seems to be pretty small. I also called ranger station, the ranger indicated that I could filter the water on the top. Not sure if this is true.by yang - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks Katy. This is the exact information I am looking for.by yang - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Hi everyone, I am planning a 2-night backpacking trip at next weekend (Martin Luther King day). I am thinking to hike to Upper Yosemite Falls on Saturday afternoon and camp there. On Sunday, hike to Eagle Peak and camp there. On Monday hike all the way down to valley and drive back to LA. From what I have read, this seems to be doable. The only thing I am not sure is the current condition. Canby yang - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
