My teenage son and I did HD 2 years ago. It was a mid-July weekend and the temps were in the mid 80's. While we didn't have any weather-related issues we both went through 5 liters of water that days. We each carried 4 liters on us (3-liter bladers and 1-liter loose bottle) and we had to filter the last liter right after we got off HD at a spring by the trail. With warmer weather, the electricalby NVRDUNN - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
We did a backpacking trip to 10 Lakes on the weekend of July 26th. When I asked the rangers about the backpacker's campground at White Wolf they said White Wolf and the backpacker's campground are closed due to work on the water and sewer system, no ETA on opening. We lucked out and got a site at Porcupine, which was cheaper in the long run anyway. We had Scouts with us so it worked out to be atby NVRDUNN - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

The shuttle is scheduled to start service on July 19th. White Wolf Lodge will remain closed for the 2019 season due to delayed access to the high country and needed repairs. Per YNP, Glacier Point Road will be closed tonight: QuoteThe Glacier Point Road will close at 10 pm tonight (July 19). Just an FYI, I had a group site reservation at Bridalveil campground starting today through the weekend. The campground called yesterday and said everyone must be out of the campground by noon on Thursday. The campground will be going to turned into a fire camp for the firefighters on the Ferguson Fire. She also said air quality is really bad and it was raining ash. If you were planning to camp aby NVRDUNN - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

I use a site called Plot A Route when looking at routes to take our Boy Scout Troop on. https://www.plotaroute.com/ When putting a route in select the paths option and it makes marking the path easier since it shows known trails. Chrisby NVRDUNN - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Wanted to see what folks do that have sleep apnea when backpacking. Do folks get the ultra portable CPAP machines, custom mouth appliances or just don't worry about it? So far I haven't worried about it but finding that just isn't cutting it anymore. Most of the time i'm backpacking with the Scouts so being tired isn't great leadership quality when responsible for a bunch of Scouts so really needby NVRDUNN - General Discussion

I did this over the summer in 2016. We purchased a Yosemite yearly pass at the park. A couple of months later I was able to upgrade the pass at Pinnacles NP for the cost difference. Note, they don't reset the date. The expiration date will stay the same as the original purchase date. So in this case I purchased a yearly Yosemite in July 2016. In October I upgrade to a NP yearly at Pinnacles NP, tby NVRDUNN - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
If you don't mind me asking, what general area of the park were those photos taken at? We are heading up to the Ten Lakes area in a couple of weeks so if this was in that general area would give me a gauge of the snow. -Chrisby NVRDUNN - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
2nd Dewey Point as a great spot to spend the night. Stayed there last August with a Boy Scout backpacking trip. We started at McGurk Meadows and came out at Taft Point. In late August there was some water in Bridalveil Creek but nothing else in the span between Dewey and Taft points. At Dewey point there is a great camping location just up hill from the point.
