This is an unsuccessful test of the image posting: eeek, I need instructions suitable for the simple minded. I tried many combinations using [ img ] and [ /img ] (no spaces though ) with and without < and > to no avail. I was able to get a hot url but not get the image into the post. Thanks Post Edited (05-01-07 16:48)by mrcondron - General Discussion
A couple Toyo-View 8X10s with sticks should raise the trip to strenuous and do the job. eeek, How does one get pics on a post?by mrcondron - General Discussion
It's a moderate hike that can easily done in a day. Right at the start of the hike you will have to wade across a creek and will get your feet wet so bring a pair of dry socks or whatever. Most of the elevation is on the way up to the Sunrise Lakes junction. Once you get there the trip to the last punch to the top of Clouds Rest is pretty easy. Once you get to the next junction at about 91by mrcondron - General Discussion
You should be able to find a spot in Yosemite Village that will give a view of Lost Arrow but you won't be able to see people on the rim or on the top of the pinnacle.by mrcondron - General Discussion

The Lost Arrow Spire is a little east of Yosemite Falls and very close to BM6936. If you hike east of Yosemite Creek across the footbridge and up to Yosemite Point you can get to BM6936. You should be able to see the top of Lost Arrow from there. Eichorn is on Cathedral Peak.by mrcondron - General Discussion
Mike, There is a kiosk just west of the parking lot. You can't miss it. (this campground used to be the Sunnyside Walk-in Campground but I guess that name was not rock-climberish enough) No wilderness permit is required and it is a first come first served campground. I would bet that the backpacker campgrounds located near trail-heads are for the use of hikers actually using the trail-heads nby mrcondron - General Discussion
Mike, Camp Four may have sites is you get there on May 3rd which is a Thursday. It's a pretty big area mostly inhabited by rock climbers and since it's pretty early in the season you might have luck there. Be ready to go outside the park and camp in a NFS campground. There are a few around the park. Dimond Campground is on the road to Hetch Hetchy and there is at least one near Groveland. Iby mrcondron - General Discussion
Gary, That is a great shot and probably quit rare. To get the link hot put < against the leading edge and > at the trailing edge. http://www.pbase.com/roberthouse/image/77347547by mrcondron - General Discussion
Penny, Just to keep the record straight, that's not my web site. I don't have one. I have lived in Riverchase and have hiked all the trails in Oak Mountain multiple times. My SO lived there and she has just moved to Carson City. If you can do the trails in Oak Mountain you will be able to do Yosemite Falls. Just take it easy and don't push the hike too hard.by mrcondron - General Discussion
Penny, Since you are coming in from the south, I presume Wawona, you must go to the Mariposa Grove and see the big trees. It will take about 1.5 to 2.0 hours for a good visit there. I would then go on to Glacier Point Road stopping at Taft Point and walking down to the point and checking out the fissures. A great spot and it will only take about an hour. Stop again at Washburn Point which isby mrcondron - General Discussion
Here's a description: eeek, How do you make a reference to a site hot? Post Edited (04-05-07 18:45)by mrcondron - General Discussion
I agree that it won't make much difference. Local people can get the annual pass. People coming from Europe or Asia, after having spent thousands of dollars to visit the US, are not going to be put off by having to spend an extra $5.00 per carload per week to get access to Yosemite.by mrcondron - General Discussion
letterknit, Highway 108 is a great scenic road (goes over the Sonora Pass) however it may not be open any sooner than Highway 120. Highway 88 is another route that is somewhat scenic but may have some slow spots due to maintenance. It's plowed during the winter.by mrcondron - General Discussion
eeek, I've had two experiences with a mama and her cubs. Once about 10 years ago at Rancheria Creek where the creek cascades to the lake. The mama brought her cubs up from behind to me and my buddy. We were boiling water for dinner when my buddy tapped me on the shoulder and pointed to just behind me. There was mama and a cub about the size of a house cat. What to do? We Just stood thereby mrcondron - General Discussion
Jay, I have hiked most of the trails in Yosemite over the years and have seen: Bears, big boars, sows with cubs, both totally wild and some that were "bad bears". Mountain lion, one and it was just outside the park. Many marmots. They are all over the place. Picas which are usually in the higher elevations. Snakes, mostly rattle snakes but a few gopher snakes, some water snakes,by mrcondron - General Discussion
Jay, I've been going to the park many times per year for about 25 years now and the only crime I've ever seen is some people speeding on highway 120 and a few dogs on the wilderness trails. I've had my car parked at trail-head parking lots for as long as two weeks and have never seen a break-in on any car at any time. The murders were a complete anomaly.by mrcondron - General Discussion
Not Yosemite National Park but rather a city park in the town of Merced which is near Yosemite. The issue is that people might relate the memorial to his brother Cary, the infamous Yosemite Killer.by mrcondron - General Discussion
Letterknit, I saw your pics on Flickr and had to give it a try. Here's my first posting: http://www.flickr.com/photos/7269309@N04/sets Post Edited (03-08-07 18:43) Post Edited (03-11-07 13:48)by mrcondron - General Discussion
Nick, I just did a google search for "otters in Yosemite" and got your post on this forum which I just joined. Anyway, a friend and I just completed a trek that included a cross country leg from Boundary Lake to Flora Lake. The route followed Bartlet Creek which has several unnamed lakes on its course to Flora. We stopped for lunch at one of the middle lakes (I'm not sure which one)by mrcondron - General Discussion
