Quotechicagocwright Thankfully there have been no plans to change anything about the Curry Pizza Deck! Don't be so sure, we haven't heard yet how many millions of $ DNC wants from the new concessionaire for the pizza recipe!by PineCone - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Ah that's better, link works fine now, thank you. Yes, I'm sorry, I did not intend to disrespect the OP Mr. Bop (or his good lady Mrs. Walking), beautiful photos from him/them as well. Now then, who is that hep cat looking-dude in their photos in those stylin' mirrored blue sunglasses?by PineCone - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Breathtakingly-beautiful winter panoramas Mr. Chick-on, 'thank you for sharon' (as you would say). Wish I was there. Your signature at the bottom of your posts “Picasa Pictures”, I have tried that link/address on several browsers, but I get nothing, not available. Is it kaput/kaplooie?by PineCone - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

I was there for the 125th celebration also. I enjoyed the festivities and speakers, and Tom Bopp was in prime form. Nice that the rain held during the entire thing. The cake was tasty as well.by PineCone - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

QuoteJustKeepWalking Supai Adventure Gear Chick-on...have the Matkat. Too bad though it isn't offered in different colors. Imagine the (increased) visual-pop his photos would have, if he were pictured paddling about the various alpine lakes in a pink boat!by PineCone - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Quoteplawrence [ Maybe they now consider Housekeeping Camp (and even Curry Village, AKA "Camp Curry" ) as part of Yosemite's High Sierra Camps. . You think? If that's the case, I've hiked to both of those Lower-High Sierra Camps in just one day. Maybe I should post a trip report (along with photos) for chick-on, including stops at both the Curry Village and Housekeeping Camp stoby PineCone - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
It's always heartwarming to read such an enjoyable post about a father & daughter outing, I hope she makes it back with you next year for a healthy and fully-enjoyable trip.by PineCone - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Wowza! Very impressive. 70+ miles?! But I bet it was all worth it for that reward waiting at the end of the trail: that bag of Sun Chips and Goldfish crackers Ms. Walking purchased at the Tuolumne Meadows store!by PineCone - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Quoteparklover We used to have a green SUV and one year driving to Tahoe a owl flew into the side of the car just north of Bridgeport where there was a field with cattle and it fell into the field. . We stopped that car and just when I went to climb over the fence to see if it was OK, I got charged by a bull. Happy ending to the story, I got away from the fence before the bull got there and theby PineCone - General Discussion
The tale of your dislocation is one of the more fascinating things I have read on here in recent years, glad to hear you're OK. You are a very brave and smart lady! I'm with Chick-on, if that had been me, no way in heck I'd have handled it well: "get me a medical evac helicopter (and after a visit to the Valley medical clinic), a room at the Ahwahnee to recuperate for a week (preferably onby PineCone - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
QuoteJustKeepWalking Love my Cheetos, for instance.. Lady, you are singing to the choir with that comment! Fritos/Cheetos/and-whatever-else-itos are a major food group in my book. I'm probably the other end of the spectrum from you, but now as I get older (...ish), I'm trying to pay more attention to what I eat. QuoteJustKeepWalking Tom-Tom turkey sticks (find at Whole Foods, no nitrates/nitrites) Ms. Walking, Thank you for pointing these out, I'd never heard of them before. I've bought the Old Wisconsin turkey sticks in the past, but who knows what's in those things? I also prefer turkey to beef. Anywho, went in the Whole Foods down the street from work this morning, and bought a package to try (theby PineCone - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
PL, We've been acquainted for a long time now, and I know how passionate you are about Yosemite, as well as the other National Parks. I agree with everything you wrote, and I empathize with your not being able to access the upper grove in the future. That being said, perhaps we can coordinate a visit in the future, and I could offer to try and carry you up there:by PineCone - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Mellanie, Could you be a little more specific as to what you're interested in? (for example: "Do the squirrels in that site run up your leg?" ) I've never stayed in that site. If it's the parking pad size you're curious about for your 5th wheels, it is officially listed by the NPS as: 98: SHADED 30X10 W/7' (with 7 feet of clearance behind the parking pad).by PineCone - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I'm glad you got your boots. I know what you mean about spotting new things in the store and the temptation, that's how I wound up with the camping bed I mentioned above in my post. For me personally and car camping, I got tired of waking up some nights laying on the tent floor next to my Thermarest pad, and then having to shimmy back up on to it zipped up in my sleeping bag, like Houdini. It sounds like a great value for that phone, I'd never heard of it before. However, a cheaper option would be to simply enlist chick-on as your guide whenever you head to the backcountry, as it sounds like he has a shoe box full of these phones!by PineCone - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
JKW, Re: " Sadly Mountain Hardwear changed the design of my favorite backpacking pants" - FYI, another place to potentially find pairs of the older design of your pants is eBay. You can refine your search to "new with tags", size, etc., and then on the search results page, at the top of the screen in green text is "follow this search", and you can click on thatby PineCone - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
For camping in the Valley campgrounds (and not for backpacking!) I'm getting this (although it admittedly would be quite fun to see someone try and lug one of these along backpacking) REI Kingdom Sleep System - Queen (audible gasp is heard from backpackers whose sleeping pad is roughly the same size/weight of a rolled-up dish towel. )by PineCone - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
