I took a photo of a guy standing in the water near Nevada Falls this year, as last year, we were contacted by NPS about a missing hiker at Nevada Falls the day we were there. Last year, the guy perished, but this year, the guy apparently made it, able to continue on, doing stupid stuff. (not quite the geezer...I hiked up Eagle Peak in June 2013 too...the 15th...)by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Tioga Road was closed yesterday due to active rockslides but has since reopened. But Highway 168 west of Aspendell is currently closed due to a slide, trapping hikers and campers on the other side.by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

When did you go? On the Tioga Pass opening day, there was lots of scaffolding near the dam at Ellery Lake and the parking lots were blocked off, but no vehicles (vehicles right at the dam.)by hikerchick395 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I am still using a ZS50 for telephotos and sometimes, sunsets, panoramas and video. I had two ZS19s before that. The second one, I got a three year Panasonic warranty but they didn't honor it because they said that I abused the camera. (I keep it very protected when not shooting.) And the biggest problem, before camera failure, has been dust getting into the lens assembly. So after that exby hikerchick395 - Photography advice, critiques and tutorials

chick-on...is that wait to go up Glacier Point Road? I did see some crazy parking photos from that area lately. We were at Glacier Point May 9 and parked OK there and at Washburn, but people were parking all over the place, like usual, near the Sentinel TH.by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Yes...it tough to look at. We lived at the bottom of that glacial moraine for 10 years, then currently reside in the dark green square (for 20 years.)by hikerchick395 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Tradition! I was the first car (three month old Subaru) at the east side gate when it opened in June 1978. I had to drive over Sonora to do it as I was working in Yosemite Valley. At that time, there was supposed to be no stopping along the road, with 10 foot high snow banks along the edges and only a single lane plowed by Olmsted Point. It has never been opened in conditions like that since.by hikerchick395 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Well I won't be at the gate unless I cancel my early dentist appointment, but I CAN leave directly from thereby hikerchick395 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Ha...not tried Holy Smoke yet. Next door the park where I'll participate in my 31st Mule Days craft show next week. Yes locals insist...Saw-Bry-Nah. Hey...youz iz on my side of the Sierra! Ha...last year North Lake Road was closed, without the boulder and people just moved the sign and drove up. ( I walked up.) I'm sure that the road was in worse condition last year. Unlike last year, I haven't been up to Tioga gate yet. Wuz hoping for opening while we were in the valley. Not much to do with this except climbing and El Cap, but, 40 years ago today, there was a big climbing accident on the monolith, which left the valley stunned. (I was working there at the time.)by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

The water levels in the Merced River and Tenaya Creek were still fairly high last week, so the only concerns might be sites that are right next to the water or low lying spots that had previously flooded. Let me just say...that video makes everything look more spacious than it really is. I have stayed across from #90 several times (and will this year again) and on either side, but I just can't recall the approach. Last year I got site just opposite this one, across the inside loop, for my sister and they weren't able to fit in between two pine trees to get into their site because there was a dby hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Wow...there will be lots of changes in the valley when we go back in May. Last visit was early May last year and the rest of the year I stayed in the high country. There is a new roundabout, I think that some campgrounds have been repaved (?,) Ma Nature rearranged some rocks and now the new cafeteria.
