Probably too late...the Pothole Dome trail is clear all the way to the twin bridges. Just have to skirt the flooding in the meadows. I used the lower most trail. I believe the main trail is OK too, because lots of hikers yesterday. But parking was not available between Lembert parking and the stables.by hikerchick395 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Snow bridges are your friend...for now... Fire at Kernville. Ick. Smoke already. Tanks for views of EVERYWHERE!by hikerchick395 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Yesterday I hiked to Piute Pass. Lots of snow but I surprised myself, after every larger snow crossing, I ended up right at a small section of trail. Hikers (mostly backpackers) were mostly off trail. While I was off the route taking photos a group of three said that they were lost. I pointed out where the trail would be. But, there, you can see where you are going...up or down...you are notby hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Yeah, the water flow, snow and flooding has changed a lot between June 19, when Tioga Road opened to the gate, and yesterday. The Dana fork is vigorous as is the lower river but both have dropped over two feet from last week. Cooler temps, the culprit. As Dave mentioned...lots of deer between the pass and Tuolumne Meadows. I'm glad it's open to pedestrian use...ha. But I'll be on my bike tomorrow for the first time! And in my car on Thursday! Too late for my permit thoughby hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Tioga should be open to Tuolumne Meadows. I walked it past the Gaylor Lake trail that comes from the Lodge yesterday. ( I brought my bike up hoping for the best...) Water or debris on the road signs were up, but the road couldn't have been more clear. ( Last week, the snow melt on the road was two inches or more deep near the pass.) There has been some asphalt patching on the edges of the roby hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

A fifth wheel should be more maneuverable than a regular tow vehicle, but I'll bet that the max trailer length for this site is 18'. We have a fifth wheel and have been able to get in spots for 12' trailers, yet, have had some difficulty getting into some of the 36' spots, due to the angle of the driveway, where the cement bumpers are, plus rocks, trees and culverts that line the road. Highway 108 may not be what you consider as a "highway." A narrow winding road with shorts sections of 19% grade on one side and 26% grade on the other. We got reminded yesterday how sharp and steep the curves are. And Highway 49 is quite winding too. Yep...drove up there. It didn't open and a Caltrans worker that we talked to said that he hadn't heard that it was announced that it would open. Got to about 8500'. No snow along the road to that point.by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Ha...chick-on...the last time that I was in the position to take the photo from that spot, I had a bear and two cubs on the other side of me. Most hikers in our party that day missed this view because of the bears. (Big year for water...2010)by hikerchick395 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
