I am heading to Yosemite, a few weeks too late, and would appreciate a few tips. Will be there in mid-April with a small group ( 6-8) and would ideally prefer to do both Pohono trail and Panorama trail over two days one night with a 7am start on Saturday morning. The most tricky part is that since the raod to GP is open now and I was not smart enough as some of the savvy people in the group, theby nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Great TR guys and awesome pics. Thanks for sharing. Looks like the crowds are building up :-|by nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks for sharing the info. I learnt about this the next day and also came to know that another group of 8-10 people from a different meetup group was there at the exact spot, on top of arch rock, till 4 pm and this accident happened around 5:55pm. In hind sight, I believe there should have been some signage near the Arch Rock or the whole section should have been barricaded. The signage at theby nwhkr - General Discussion

Great TR! Thanks for sharing. I am soo tempted to make a trip to Yosemite over this weekend. Congrats on the Half Dome trip and it's amazing that you guys had the summit to yourself. Love the pic of the lunch spot (The seat with a view) and the sunset/night shots. cheersby nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
QuoteDave_Ayers If you do head upstream through Muir Gorge, the trail along the T should be passable without wading if the Gauge Height above Hetch Hetchy (http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ca/nwis/uv?11274790) is below ~13 feet. During higher flows, there may be some easy (ankle deep, level ground) wading in the vicinity of the creek coming down from Mattie Lake, about a mile or so downriver of Glen Auby nwhkr - General Discussion
Quotechick-on http://yosemitenews.info/forum/read.php?3,66183,66183#msg-66183 Thanks! That video was a great refresher. Last time we camped at Glen Aulin, little off from the main camping area. That site was awesome and it might be a long way from Register creek to cover in one day. Thanks, will check with Rangers and others about the stream crossings closer to the date. Quotechick-on There is a nice campspot about 1 mile before there ... Thanks for the tip, that totally makes sense. I am keeping the option open for exit via Glen Aulin (starting at WW). In that case, any recommendation for a second night camping spot? I did the Glen Aulin to Waterwheel Falls 2 years back as an overnighter and met Basilbop and JKW at California Falls. Thanks a lot for all yby nwhkr - General Discussion
Quotechick-on well worth it to hike the bit up to Register. Thanks for the info about the stream crossings and I will definitely shoot for Table lake. Is Register on the way to Table Lake? Now I have the permits for May 23 - 25 and waiting to see if I can get a campsite at Crane Flats for Friday, May 22nd. Will keep everyone posted if I hear about the Crane Flats' opening date.by nwhkr - General Discussion
Thanks for sharing...and nice shot of the tent!by nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Quotechick-on From my track it's 16.5 miles from WW to Loch Tablae. Problem is... in July... it can be hotter than the dingle dong. So you might have to factor that in. something like 3800 ft. climb to Table Lake... and 4500 climb back out... Have fun Thanks chick-on, looks like permits for early July are all gone. I will shoot for end of May to avoid the hot weather too as I am stillby nwhkr - General Discussion
Quotequmqats There's a LOT of downhill from WW to Pate that you'll have to come back UP on Day 3. Thanks, that's a great point and I didn't realize that. Just got an email from Mike that has the elevation profile. Looks like it's 11 miles one way from WW to Table lake with an elevation loss of approx 3500' and gaining it back up near the Table lake. As such, I am thinking of maybe going allby nwhkr - General Discussion
Quoteeeek QuotenwhkrDay 2: Pate Valley to Table Lakes (~6 miles) Is that vertical? I was eyeballing it, seems like the actual distance is less than 6 miles.by nwhkr - General Discussion
Reviving this old thread as I am looking for some advice from the experts about how to cover Table lakes over a 3-day backpacking trip. I am thinking of heading there in early July instead of Memorial day weekend to avoid the tricky stream crossings though bugs might be more prevalent in early July. For the sake of time, I am contemplating an in and out trip from White Wolf with the tentative plaby nwhkr - General Discussion
Thanks Katy! That's a gorgeous view and appreciate you sharing it. It helps to get additional perspective. My plan is to camp at Snow Creek and do a day trip to the cabin and Mt Watkins on the following day as I am not sure if my group will be up to backup up to the cabins. We'll be a group of 5-8 and some of them have never backpacked in this kind of colder conditions. Off course all thisby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks! Keeping it old-school never gets out-of-fashion I will be with a small group, so thinking of heading to Snow Creek, cam there, and a daytrip to cabin and Mt Watkins (provided there's not too much snow in next 2 weeks). cheersby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks Rick! Do you know of any shuttle service or private operators that offer a ride from the valley to Toga pass. I am thinking of heading down south via Tioga pass on the Thanksgiving weekend...provided the road is open that weekend. Thanksby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Chick-on/Grant1 - Thanks a lot for the info, this is great. I am looking forward to my outing this weekend as out group of 5 is doing a saturday evening hike to Clouds Rest and then a sunday morning hike to Mt Dana. I am keen to do Mt. They have 2 bear boxes near the lower campsites and close to the restroom. We stayed at the upper campsites and trekked back n forth about 100'. Quotehotrod4x5 QuoteJayabrams Glen Aulin is a backpackers campground with established bear boxes. If you are only camping there you will not need the canisters.
