Yup, I saw people being turned back at Big Oak Flat entrance station on Friday 6/19 morning. In addition to what basilbop mentioned, 20% of day use permits are available 2 days before at 7am and the rest are already on sale. Looks like there are spots available for some days in June and July. August hasn't been released yet https://www.recreation.gov/ticket/facility/300015?q=Yosemite%20Natioby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Nice, congrats! I had no luck from 7 - 8am. They definitely released some additional sites later....maybe similar to how Upper Pines sites were released earlier this week in a rolling/staggered manner.by nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Looks like NPS released some sites recently. This was definitely after 8am. https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232447/availabilityby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I think park might be in the next phase by August or by July 15th (assuming it mirrors state), so I will keep the faith.by nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The whole TM campground is closed for this phase of the opening. Got this confirmation from a wilderness rangerby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteNot quite The Geezer, but getting there Was your email from recreation.gov? I still haven't received a notice about cancellation of a TM campground reservation for August...but that wasn't a group camp. Just checked and this came from Recreation.gov, so yours might be still good. QuoteCorntortilla Anyone else notice the daily permits are only through August 31st? Something must have changed. It was till end of July only when I checked in the morningby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks guys! Appreciate the support. I feel for the park people and yosemite conservancy though. People are going on an overdrive with desperation and NPS will have its hands full. On the yosemite FB page, there are over 5k comments/questions about the park opening (that was announced just 30 hours back) and people have all their family members trying to book the day use permits, bringing theby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I got an email about cancelling my group site reservation for September. My initial thought was that only the group sites will be closed, until I saw that statement. Backcountry access from TM is allowed as I have the permits for the weekend of 6/19by nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteFatFlatlander And as a bonus, I now know how large a kite I can legally fly in Yosemite! : ) Nice! Didn't know that they are so specific about it. Btw got the confirmation email that TM campground will be closed for the season. Had a group site there for September and I can live without it. I think they might have thought about stating it explicitly since the people coming by bus do not need to buy a day use permitby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quotechick-on Here's a little better shot of the gully: Great clicks!! and sorry about the camera. Is this gully from the west side or the SW side? Hoping to check out BD later in June and wondering whether to traverse the SW side from ND or go straight West to East from the trail and shoot for the notch or base of the gully. My guess is that the gates will function as usual. They might have monitoring by camera at night, if they don't have it already, and just mandate that people coming in after the kiosk is closed need to get the day pass next day from a booth outside the visitor center. Something similar to what's done for the campgrounds. Agree about $2, it's a decent workaround and a nominal fee to make peopleby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quoteabetterpitchfork Not sure if anyone beyond Corntortilla cares, but since I posted the first message here, I may as well post the update: Thanks for sharing, this is awesome update!! Quotehikerchick395 We did have fire weather and a property fire in the neighborhood. Had an immediate evacuation order. Luckily the fire was put under control soon after. Ohh wow! Same. So either they are bracing up for the fall season or this whole season will be a wash, aka park or campgrounds closed through the summer. Safety first!by nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotemtn man The hold on new reservations from May 24 to Sept. 30 was announced on 4/27. (Poorly written as it's not clear whether you can't make reservations ON those dates, or whether you can't make reservations FOR those dates) It appears they meant to say you can't make reservations FOR those dates. Camping limit after 9/15 is 30 days. So it appears on 5/15 you could try for early Oct. Gby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Very sorry to hear that and hope you are feeling much better. Not sure if it's vertigo that onsets with age and one can recover from that with some adjustments. I don't know much about Mono Pass and if it's mid-week, you might be able to score a walk-in permit for other trips within the park. Cathedral lakes is one of the options and others can probably chime in with more inputs.by nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Some great tips here and I don't have anything to add to that. Lyell/Raferty will probably have snow in July, not that I am recommending snowshoes at that time of the year unless it's a very heavy snow year. You will know the accurate snow levels by the end of April. Another option, though not as fun as going though high sierras, is to string Pohono and Panorama trail together.
