You mentioned wanting to go in late April. While that can be a great time to visit, you could also find both Glacier Point Road and Hwy 120 still closed. Coming from where you are it would be a shame to lose all that access. If you are flexible enough to make plans on short notice, I would wait for those roads to open first. Certainly at least GPR. Quotetroutwild JohnC.... I have used my Senior Pass not only in all "reservable" NPS campgrounds in Yosemite (including Tuolumne Meadows) but all across the western states, including entrance fees. If in doubt, I'd call ahead. I believe you since you say you did get the discount. The web page just doesn't make that clear. Thanks for the confirmation.by JohnC - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quotetroutwild Yes, JohnC. Your Senior Pass will save you 50% on campsites in addition to the free entrance. See this: http://store.usgs.gov/pass/senior.html Thanks. But, the fine print there says "in general" the discount applies to campsites. No mention of any specific parks that do or don't discount. Have you actually used it there? Quoteplawrence QuoteJohnC Quoteplawrence Going from Hwy 99 directly to Hwy 140 is fine too. Also Merced is a great city to pick up your final supplies for Yosemite. It has a Costco near Hwy 99 (only a couple of miles north of the Hwy 140 turnoff) that also sells very low-priced gasoline (though other independent Merced gas stations often match Costco gasoline prices). Quoteplawrence QuoteJohnC Quotemtn man Quoteplawrence Definitely try taking Hwy 140 instead of Hwy 41. Concur with Plawrence on the time thing. I used to pull my trailer going 140 and I seem to remember it was only 25 minutes or so more than going 41. Quotemtn man Quoteplawrence It's really not that much longer time-wise to take Hwy 140 from the Central Valley (versus Hwy 41) when approaching Yosemite from the south. So has anybody seen Horsetail in the last few days and could comment on the water flow? I can't really judge well on the web cam. But I'm guessing it isn't very good. Quoteparklover If you want to use a microwave to cook then Housekeeping would be a good choice over Curry. Although, I personally would not want to lug a microwave to the park. Quoteparklover People either love Housekeeping or hate it. I have friends who swear by it because they like having a semi camping experience where you have a fire and can cook which you can't do at Curry but still have the beds and the electricity.
