Hoping to sneak in a few days of hiking before the big crowds of Labor Day, we drove south to the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness and found just what we were looking for. Day One: it began a long drive down to Courtwright Reservoir with stops in Madera for lunch at a Chinese restaurant (forgettable) and Prather to pick up our permit and get the latest Tom Harrison Map of the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness.by balzaccom - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

I loved the Dinkey Lake Wilderness. I hiked in in from Courtwright Reservoir a few years ago and spend a few days hiking a lake filled loop. Right now I'm not able to find the pictures, but find a map and you'll figure it out.by lschaaf - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
From your link I am guessing that you are using Advanced Search. I was just using standard. It appears that the default (for me) is search the past year, and posts with me as the author. That's not very helpful. Your link looks like any author, any date,, any forum, any type. I'll have to keep this in mind. Maybe there is a preference in profiles for search defaults? I'll take a look.by ags - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

@plawrence thanks for the TR link and search tip. I searched using this site's search and nothing turned up. It surprises me that Google found anything, as I thought Google was used for even intra-site search here.by ags - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Here's one trip report of the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness (it's also mentioned in other threads too). http://yosemitenews.info/forum/read.php?17,74567,74577 (Tip: Google the following: site:yosemitenews.info "dinkey lakes" )by plawrence - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I'll be heading out further south than normal for an easy (sleeping on a bed in a cabin each night) long weekend in Dinkey Lakes Wilderness. Probably just hike a loop to the lakes, then maybe up to Kaiser Peak. I thought that there might have been some discussion here regarding that general area but searches of Kaiser Peak and Dinkey Lakes turned up nothing. Any suggestions about what to see/aby ags - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
This was my first time in the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness / Courtright Reservoir area. The drive to Courtright from San Jose took a long time, but we finally arrived around noon on Saturday morning. Our objective for Saturday was a hike up the top of nearby Eagle Peak. From the Cliff Lake TH, the route immediately begins ascending the NW ridge. We had a bit of trouble route finding up a small oby edg - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Was supposed to be on a road trip about 200 miles to the north to view the eclipse today, but the other person caught a head cold, didn't feel like spending the $90 on gas all by myself, and have a 6 day trip up to Del Norte County redwoods over the holiday to prepare for anyway. Quoteplawrence QuoteRed Lipstick I wish I knew of another woman that likes to hike and tent camp, as much as I do, but that seems to be a dying thing. There are actually number of them active in this forum. Don't worry, you're not the only one, though it might at times feel that way. Here I am. Out there every weekend. Quotey_p_w I recall at the coastal portion Olympic NP a park ranger said during a campfire program that there were at least four known black bears in the area. He indicated that they avoided people ("the hate people" was the exact phrase) because there was legal hunting in the area. QuoteAlmostThere We look every year for a man who disappeared in Dinkey. No trace yet. On a similar note, I seem to recall that a ranger disappeared in the Kings Canyon backcountry sometime around the mid-1990s (if memory serves correctly on the timeframe). But Yosemite isn't in Bozeman. Neither is SEKI or Desolation or Emigrant or Dinkey. I think the best place to raise an outdoor kid is with an outdoor family. If you aren't motivated to go you won't take the kid.
