Yes, the boulder field going up to Fern Ledge - Sunnyside Bench trail- just off the main trail is a rattlesnake hangout, but as already mentioned, they're mild. I took my then nine year old daughter up that trail last summer, and she stopped to tie her shoe on one of the boulders and heard a rattle. I walked up to her and about 18" below her under the rocks was a juvenile rattler. He wasby UZUMATI - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
A buddy and I did a sunrise hike of HD Labor Day 2011. We took Mist Trail up, as we both have done it during the day multiple times, so was familiar with it. I have done limited night hike/bike before, so the tunnel vision was not so much a problem. We were on the trail about 10:30 PM, and topped out about 4:30 AM. My buddy is a former science teacher, so I was schooled in all the visible conby UZUMATI - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Just a bit funny to me how DP, one of the world's be rock climbers and slackliners, holding many FA's, is being referred to as "yahoo" and "stupid." It's my understanding that it's not officially prohibited to climb DA, in fact, there's an underground rock climbing book decscribing routes on DA. QuoteTreeswing Hopefully this isn't too much of a tangent since this topic is more about where/how, but here are the best articles I've found on water, and looky there, one's from the Yosemite Association. We waited in the parking lot for over 2hrs. and the party never returned. If nobody claims them, I will use them. Yes, I did the Ledge trail two years ago. Awesome hike with incredible views. Do you have experience backpacking, or are you going with someone who does? If you are going with an experienced hiker, ask him or her what you need to bring. Make a list. REI will have just about everything you need. A few tips: Never scrimp on boots. This is probably the single most important piece of gear for a backpacker. You can expect to drop about $200 for a good pair. And get 2 paby UZUMATI - General Discussion

I haven't seen many rattlers in Yosemite valley myself. Hetch Hetchy, now that's a different story. I hiked for about a week there about 15 years ago, and there were rattlers literally everywhere. Must've seen 25-30 sunning themselves next to and on the trail. Needless to say, we were very careful with every step we took.by UZUMATI - General Discussion
I happened to be at Sentinel Beach letting my two little girls cool off when I saw the chopper heading towards HD. Sad to hear it was a fatality. A somber reminder to all that despite it's inherent beauty, Yosemite can be a dangerous and unforgiving environment, often times not giving one a second chance.by UZUMATI - General Discussion
