So looking forward to visiting beautiful Tuolumne in a couple days. just wondering what campground conditions are like as far as sites, water, mosquitos, bathrooms, etc. Also what has weather been like? Is there still much snow around?by mellowyellow - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Hi, I will be up in Tuolumne Meadows on Sunday and wondering what current weather is like - day/night temps, any thunderstorm activity? Bear activity in and around campground? Mosquitoes? Have wildflowers hit their peak yet? We are also heading down to a cabin somewhere near Wawona area later in the week to meet family members. How bad has smoke from the fire been in that area?by mellowyellow - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I hope so, we have the same idea....weird weather, thunderstorms, etc., but hopefully everything will turn out ok.......by mellowyellow - General Discussion
How so? I worry about the affects of lightening and thunderstorms.by mellowyellow - General Discussion

How long is this expected to last? Am battling hubby over our 10 y.o. recent head injury which includes skull fracture concussion. Has to wear a C-collar for 3-4 weeks which would mean it coming off 1 week before vacation at best.We are expected to check in 7 27/08. Camping at TM + hiking to wherever extended family (teen/older) group wants to go...and we've taken some pretty good day hikesby mellowyellow - General Discussion
beautiful photos, thanks for sharing!by mellowyellow - General Discussion
Thanks again Letterknit. I got the book, turns out it wasn't any of our family in the Tenaya photos but close resemblance. It is a very interesting and beautiful book though so I bought it anyway. Had a big family gathering yesterday and it was quite a hit, everyone loved looking through it.by mellowyellow - General Discussion
Thank you so much! I had been searching under "Yosemite Revisited". It sounds exactly like what I had been searching for, I've already ordered it from my local book store.by mellowyellow - General Discussion
where there are photos of certain places in Yosemite that have first been photographed by Ansel Adams, then photographed years later using the same type camera, taken in pretty much the exact same spot, at the same time of year, same time of day....? I will explain.... A few years ago, our family was on our annual Yosemite trip, we were spending the day at Lake Tenaya. Behind us there was a gby mellowyellow - General Discussion
Fabulous pics! Are you from San Diego? Me too. How often do you go to Yosemite? I'm not sure whether to mention this post to my hubby or not, he keeps talking crazy about doing a quick Bishop or Yosemite weekend, its been so long since we've seen it this time of year. How beautiful....This year I spotted and photoed a "leopard lily". It was along the creek in TM across from the campground. If you follow along from where the creek runs under the road (by D Loop) and follow the creek to the left by the pines is where I saw it. The only other one I spotted was by White Wolf quite a few years back.by mellowyellow - General Discussion
nice pics. I like the Glacier Point photos.by mellowyellow - General Discussion
Is there an online message board for lost and found items? One of my kids had found a piece of jewelry at Lake Tenaya approx. Wed., Aug. 1st. Had totally forgotten about it until I came across it today in a backpack. I would love to find the owner, it looks like a sentimental item.by mellowyellow - General Discussion
I agree with whoever recommended the restaurant in Wuksachi Village (Seq. Nat. Pk.), they are very good. a couple more Yosemite hikes: May Lake (I think that is out of White Wolf campground) Sunrise Lake (out of Tenaya) this is a very steep, strenuous zigzaggy trail. Elizabeth Lake (out of Tuolumne campground) I also agree that the Glen Aulin hike is a good one. Did that 2 weeksby mellowyellow - General Discussion
It's been a while since I stayed in A loop, but I remember a few years back having a nice site towards the end, close to the river. Only problem then was a heavy mosquito year, you shouldn't have any problems this year.by mellowyellow - General Discussion
I liked Fossil Falls, but would suggest early morning or late afternoon/evening. We stopped once in the middle of the afternoon, and the heat was overwhelming.by mellowyellow - General Discussion
Javmp: So you recognized it too! We were there from 7/29 - 8/4 and couldn't believe how many cars we'd see parked along the road between TM campground and Tenaya. There was a wedding at Tenaya on Wednesday, I thought that was pretty cool. We usually day hike out pretty far also, and I was also surprised at the amount of people we saw on the trails- like you said, more so than in many previousby mellowyellow - General Discussion
y p w: I understand what you're saying, it's just that I've camped at Tuolumne for 23 years and its NEVER been like what we experienced last week. I'd always considered TM a sort of hidden jewel as the masses mostly stayed down in the valley and the people that did stay in TM used to be more respectful of the natural beauty of the park and campground/trail rules. This year, people were drivingby mellowyellow - General Discussion
Yosemite itself was absolutely beautiful...beautiful skies, great weather. Went on some great hikes - found a new one I'm not inclined to share right now. We found a great area for wildflowers, saw lots of deer, birds, fish, a (yearling) bear at Tenaya Lake...that part couldn't have been more perfect. The worst part was the people!!! We camped at Tuolumne Meadows, as we always do, and for somby mellowyellow - General Discussion
We left out of Tuolumne Meadows yesterday about 3:00p.m. and as we were in the store, a search and rescue guy came in. Someone asked him if they had found her yet and he said noby mellowyellow - General Discussion
I just know that once I see that waterfall I start to feel like I'm "there".by mellowyellow - General Discussion
They may be related, but (thank goodness!) plumber cleavage habitat is largely limited to the southern portion of the state, and they rarely migrate farther north than Santa Barbara.by mellowyellow - General Discussion
Will be in Tuolumne Meadows next week and wondering about conditions: Day/night temp? Thunderstorms/lightening strikes? Any bear sightings? water level? mosquitoes? Has anyone been up to Gaylor Lakes? Went there last year, it was beautiful but the mosquitoes were unbearable. How about Elizabeth Lake? Glen Aulin? Any info would be appreciated; thanks to the previous thread Iby mellowyellow - General Discussion
