I will be in the valley May 5 -9 and plan to hike the upper falls trail. Last year at this time I had to turn back before the top due to snow. Any reports on the trail conditions this year? Thanks, Tomby Tom F. - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Mike- Yes, that is what we experienced last year in the first week of May. We may have jumped the gun this year going in the last part of April. Every year is a little different. Tomby Tom F. - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
My dear wife went about half way up from the gate to the bottom of Vernal Falls. She did not experience or see any ice. Tomby Tom F. - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

My wife and I just got back from a four day trip to the Valley. Great weather the last couple days. Did the hike (walk) to Mirror Lake and continued on for about a 1/2 mile past Snow Creek. Saw what looked like a bobcat (cat-like body, upright ears, short tail and big feet). It watched us for a while and then meandered on its way. On another day I hiked the Upper Yosemite Falls trail. I will be in Yosemite next week (arrive 4/24). Any current information on conditions along the Yosemite Falls (to Columbia Rock) or Four Mile trails would be appreciated. Thanks, Tomby Tom F. - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The hike to North Dome from Tioga Road is fairly straight forward (about 4 hours). The hike from the Valley floor is much more challenging and (for most of us) would involve spending the night. There is no water source on North Dome, so remember to bring some with you.by Tom F. - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Good report. We may have chatted online before you headed out. Sharon and I did a similiar route at the end of September (except we did the luxury version at the HSC's).by Tom F. - General Discussion
Where is the Echo Creek drainage? I was at Vogelsang about a week after she was found (very sad event). Post Edited (09-15-07 20:46)by Tom F. - General Discussion
My wife and I took a four day trip from Tuolumne to the Valley floor last week. We left Tuolumne and headed up to Vogelsang on Day 1. The steepest part of this 1,300 foot elevation rise is near the beginning where you turn off of the John Muir trail to follow the Rafferty Creek trail. The Creek itself is bone dry except for a pondlette less than one mile from the Vogelsang HSC. The weather was vby Tom F. - General Discussion

Ouch. Will there be any opportunity to fill my water bottle along the Rafferty Creek(Tuolumne to Vogelsang), or the Fletcher or Lewis Creek (Vogelsang to Merced Lake)? Tomby Tom F. - General Discussion
I will be hiking into the valley by way of Vogelsang and Merced Lake next week. How dry is dry? What about Nevada Falls and Vernal Falls, which will be on my route? Tomby Tom F. - General Discussion
My wife and I will be hiking the High Sierra camp route from Toulomne Meadows to Vogelsang to Merced Lake to the Yosemite Valley in late August (four day trip). My question is whether there are water sources between the camps? I am trying to decide whether to bring my water purifiyer or bring extra water bottles to fill before leaving each camp. Many of the streams sound like they have dried uby Tom F. - General Discussion
