Just got back today, the mosquito situation is bad. I never worry about putting any spray on and this year I had to put spray on and still got bit multiple times. Agree with the multiple deer, saw two young buck in the campground, bears were out at night. My group was spread out a little bit, one had thought all the trash was thrown out however a small bag that originally contained shrimp missedby Javmp - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. It will take easily an hour from the valley to TM. The speed limit is not that high and the park rangers patrol the 120 to keep drivers from driving crazy. Oh and good luck if you get stuck behind motorhomes. I would go 395, make sure you get gas in Bishop it was actually cheaper than in Ventura County (5/30). Gas past this point will increase at least .70by Javmp - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
If the group is staying in the TM campground, there is a message board about 200 ft. before the kiosk. You can place a message up there for your group.by Javmp - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I did Tenya Lake to Half Dome and down to the Valley in one day. At that time of my life I wasn't in shape at all, but I know my body and the how far I can push it. Highly recommended, very quite until you hit the trail to Half Dome.by Javmp - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I know rumors are crazy, but I just read from a reliable source that the unofficial word is it will open tomorrow, June 4th, at noon. I've seen a lot more than that on one site. Last summer there were at least two families with at least 10 adults and children packed onto one site. They stayed a couple days, so I figure they didn't have a problem.by Javmp - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

There was a special on Nat Geo a couple months ago about a guy who was hunting I believe polar bears. He saw this bear and thought how weird it looked but would make a nice trophy, considering the coloration of the fir. Got in trouble because the authorities thought it was a grizzly, didn't have grizzly permit, ran lab test to determine it was a hybrid that had both polar and grizzly features.by Javmp - General Discussion
From May lake the trail is marked however once you start going up the hill, you just try to follow what you think is the trail. It will level out and you can clearly see the trail again, then it will go start to ascend while during switchbacks. This section of the trail is very rocky, lots of lose rocks. Once you reach the top on the left side is the radio tower. No marked trail going up, every oby Javmp - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I believe the TM campground will be closed for the season as of tomorrow. I guess you mean that you are starting by Tioga Pass Entrance? Just down the hill is the Tioga Lake camground, I passed by last week and it was not full. Junction campground is another option. Both campgrounds are about 5 mins from the entrance to the park. Here is a list of other area campgrounds. It hasn't been updatedby Javmp - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

The bear seems to be getting bigger since the last time I saw her. She was very thin about a month ago but seems to be getting a good amount of human food. Rain, hail, snow, wind, high 70's, all in a week. Supposed to go up to Sunrise lakes and HSC but brother messed up his knee, decided to do North Dome and Indian Rock. Great views up there. Along 395 there is a place called Rock Creek. There are lots of trails up in the area and people take the pups all the time. It is a little rocky so most people put little boots on the dog's feet. Rock Creek is about an hour south of Tioga Pass, near Crowley Lake. On a map you will see Tom's Place which is on the 395, take the road up the canyon just past the lake and there are lots smaller lakeby Javmp - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
You can buy a license at Sports Chalet, Sports Authority, etc. Same prices everywhere. You can fish the stream in the TM area, there are lots of brown trout within the water. They are smaller than the fish that are outside the park, but they are wild trout so if you eat them they will have a better taste. They also are not as easy to catch as those that are stocked, for someone new to fishingby Javmp - General Discussion
