Quotequmqats Quotelosthillsguy A little off topic but while they are at it I think they should remove the man made water diversion dam at the top of Nevada Falls. If they did that then the upper part of Mist trail would wash out every year you had high water. That dam prevents water from going down the gully that Mist Trail goes up. I understand that, the point is that it is man made onlyby losthillsguy - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

TIP: After you flag, you can reload the page and flag again. I think that counts toward the total number of flags. I just did the above ad and on the fourth time it didn't reload because it was removed.by losthillsguy - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I'm game to help the grass roots enforcement. We should each take a local Craigs list to check. I'll take the San Luis Obispo Craigs list. SLO is clear!by losthillsguy - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The way I r ead it the permit is only required if you go past the warning signs at the base of the subdome. No use checking for a Halfdome Permit anywhere before that as it's not required. I think there will be lots of education along the trail in the way of signs stating a permit is required to summit Halfdome and Rangers along the way may tell you the same if you look like you are trying to sby losthillsguy - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Stopping Spam Bots. I run several phpbb forums with registered users in the 1000s. I have found the most effective way to stop the bot is with a question during registration that requires an answer. The character recognition question can be read by many bots. If this forum software has that addon or someone has writtten one it may be worth looking into. We camped at the top of the Snow Creek Switchbacks a couple of weeks ago during several days of thunderstorms and rain in Yosemite. From our camp there was a perfect silhouette view of the cable route. I was amazed to see hikers on the cables while it rained and thundered all around.by losthillsguy - General Discussion
Quotekrusovice Quotetomdisco Quotemichaelg If you put up one sign with warnings, it better be in every know written language in the world. Why? None of the other trail signs in the park are multilingual, to my knowledge. Jiml ISTR at least a couple of multilingual signs in Yosemite. One is at Nevada Falls I believe, warning people to stay out of the water. At the top of Yosemite Fallby losthillsguy - General Discussion

This thread is being hijacked! Back to the topic... Trekking Poles or "Hiking sticks" are a big advantage in my view. I resisted using them for a long time. Now being older, they help with balance, lessen the impact to knees and joints, and also in my case, double as tent poles.by losthillsguy - General Discussion
When you reserve your permit usually they ask for where you are camping the first night. Better stick with that to stay out of trouble.by losthillsguy - General Discussion
I am planning on doing the Yosemite Falls / Snow Creek loop this spring. It will be a 2 night 3 day hike for me via North Dome, Indian Rock, etc. The deal is I want to do it before Tioga Rd opens, but also don't want to hike across to much snow on the ground. The two time slots available for me are May 11-13 or May 27-29 Based on the current snow pack on the north rim does anyone haby losthillsguy - General Discussion

There has been no picture from the cam for a couple of days. Anyone know the status of this webcam? I wanted a good view of the snow conditions at 8000' .by losthillsguy - General Discussion
Quotebill-e-g The most number of switchbacks on one stretch is easily north from Pate Valley. 75 switchbacks and 1750ft. elevation gain. But that only gets you near the 'ponds' ... you've still got a good chunk to do... and more switchbacks..! Last year I was gunning for Rodgers Meadow in a day and it was hotter than a pistol. I threw in the towel and stayed near the eastern most pond loby losthillsguy - General Discussion
The switchbacks that seemed to be the longest and most repetitive to me are on Snow Creek from Mirror Lake up to the North Rim. That also includes all the passes on the JMT.by losthillsguy - General Discussion

Sierra Fan. I was reading your post, great photos by the way, and was wondering about your turning off direct linking. I didn't mean to offend anyone. I am a long time birder and the question piqued my interest. I sent the photo to my buddy Chris who is the California Condor Reintroduction Project Director. I see the light reflection on the top of the wing. I was referring to the coloration on underside of the right wing which appears to me to be fairly accurate and clear. Black tapered leading edge, with a white trailing edge. You really only have a few choices. Turkey Vulture Condor Golden Eagleby losthillsguy - General Discussion
It is clearly a turkey vulture. A Calif. Condor has a black trailing edge and tip feathers. A condor also has a generally flat wing span when soaring. This bird has neither. A turkey vulture has a black leading edge, white trailing edge and tip feathers. A turkey vulture also has the dihedral or v shape when viewed from the front. The bird in the photo has both characteristics. I don't thiby losthillsguy - General Discussion
