There is a reservations hut in the valley. There are usually always cancellations each morning. There is a line you can stand in, and usually get one of the cancellation spots in the valley. I've gotten a site in the valley day of, this way. I've also attempted, and didn't get a valley campsite, and just went to a first come first serve site. I never had any problems with first come first seby swmphotos - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Anyone know the latest on this story? I read they found his keys still in the car. Seems a bit fishy that there may be more going on than just a stroll from the car and getting lost.by swmphotos - General Discussion

Not sure if this falls under this topic, but it's an amusing story to say the least. A french couple camped next to us kept their flashlight on in their tent while they got a little frisky with each other. Basically providing a silhouetted peep show for all the surrounding campers.by swmphotos - General Discussion

With much delight, I saw someone appear on the Ahwahnee Meadow Cam yesterday afternoon. It's the first time I've seen a person appear on one of the live cams. He was trekking right along in his snow shoes. Anyone else ever seen a human pop up on the cam before?by swmphotos - General Discussion

I went to Yosemite back in June without reservations on a weekend. We had no problem getting a spot at Bridalveil Creek campground which is first come first serve. To our surprise it never completely filled the entire weekend we were there. It's a little far from the Valley, up Glacier Point Road. So, if you can't get a spot in the valley at the cancelation office, you can always try there.by swmphotos - General Discussion
I started skimming when I got lost somewhere in the beginning. Sounds far from relaxing. If you're a tourist without a car, a great option Josh (if you have a few days), would be to consider going to Yosemite with the Green Tortoise Hostel in San Francisco. The hostel is fantasic, and I've never actually been on their bus tour to Yosemite, but have heard they do a great job. Here are links toby swmphotos - General Discussion
I'm a few hundred pages into this book, and thus far have found it rather interesting, and fascinating at the same time. One story in particular that caught my attention is the plane crash on Dec 9, 1976. A plane smuggling marijuana crashed into the Lower Merced Pass Lake. With a storm approaching, and it being back country, the rangers/fbi wouldn't think it would be attainable, and could leby swmphotos - General Discussion

I was at the top of Nevada Falls Saturday when we heard the search and rescue helicopter fly over. We knew something horrible must've happened, but didn't hear anything more of it until I was at the airport and picked up a San Francisco Newspaper yesterday. Here's the article from the paper: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/06/19/BAGHNQHLEV1.DTL&hw=half+dome&sn=00by swmphotos - General Discussion
I'm an East Coaster in love with the West Coast. I'll be flying out tomorrow morning headed for San Fran, and eventually landing in Yosemite for a few days (third time in four years). Such a beautiful place. Thanks everyone for their quick responses, you've all been very helpful. I'll probably roll the dice hopeing for a cancelation at Lower/Upper/or North Pines first, and then move on to Caby swmphotos - General Discussion
I'll be in Yosemite this weekend without campground reservations. I hear Camp 4 is a walk-up camp in Yosemite, that is first come/first serve. Does anyone know what time the reservation office for Camp 4 opens? and where in the park it is located? I want to get their as soon as it opens, b/c I hear it fills up incredibly fast. Any other info would be helpful. Thanks; Scottby swmphotos - General Discussion

Hi Everyone- I know spring time is the ideal time to visit Yosemite, but I was wondering about the fall? I understand Waterfalls may be dried up? I'm looking at visiting sometime between mid-September through early October. Are there any natural perks for this time of year? Thanksby swmphotos - General Discussion
