A friend recently told me he was up that way, and encountered a big Trail Closed sign with warnings. They bypassed the Mist Trail, and hiked to Vernal Fall, and then looking down from the top, could see lots of rockfall chaos near the top. Can anyone confirm this or is there any news of this?? Wow!!! Sierrafan hit the nail on the head! Think I'll post that a few places. My favorite Fresno Bee reporter Marek Warszawski published an article Saturday: Fearless skiers descend vertical Clouds Rest in Yosemite These guys had to rappel some 500' in order to ski down the rest (no pun intended). QuoteAlmostThere QuoteKatyAnderson I read this article on Giardia in the Sierras in 2004. Seldom treated any Sierra water after that. Lived to tell the tale. YMMV. that's nice. Another several links for the Diving Board: Little Yosemite Valley Snow Level And my own set of pictures and a description of the route: Half Dome Diving Board, Sept 20, 2008 There is a Guano Route variation, where you leave the trail between the top of Vernal Fall and Nevada Fall -- where the trail first meets the Liberty Cap apron. I've hiked HD once at night, a number of times in the day. Night was a good experience, (except the two-hour drive home the next day!) The only thing I'd warn you of is that you don't know the trail, so you need to study it VERY carefully, so you know where there are junctions. People, today is the last day to comment on the plan to limit access to Half Dome even more than it was last year. Please PLEASE, go to the Yosemite web site and ask them to think outside the box, and find more ways to allow people to access Half Dome without the rush hour crowding. dbagnall, When fanatics succeed in shutting everyone out of the wilderness, there won't be anyone left who will advocate for the wilderness. Nobody will care, since they can't go there anyway. What the xxxx! Why are they picking on Half Dome hikers to worry about "solitude opportunities"? Good grief, why don't they worry about it at Nevada Falls, or someplace else. I'd REALLY like to know why they seem to think people hike that trail with any desire for solitude. They're joking, right? Saaaay, I'd like to go to Glacier Point and have it all to myself.
