Just called the park. I'm surprised they picked up. It normally goes round and round without anybody picking up. They said they're desperately trying to open the campground to only reserved campsites. IDK about TM but she mentioned the only other FC-FS site is Camp 4. Time to change the plans!! Any ideas as to FC-FS camping within an hour drive of the valley??by DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Do you know how this could be verified? I'm counting on a fc-fs site opening tomorrow. Thanks!by DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
"Candelaria Construction is working on an accelerated schedule to complete work within the campground with plans to have it open by July 1st for those people that have reservations." Does this mean crane flat is only open for folks with reservation and no FC-FS sites available?by DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Any idea when the other FC-FS campsites N of Yosemite will open up (Tioga Pass)? I was planning on taking the family up on Thursday next week and only see Crane Flat and Tuolumne Meadows opening July 1st on the NPS site. Any suggestions on getting a site at Crane Flat? Interesting! I would have bet money there were permits up for sale on ebay or craigslist. I have seen campsite reservations up for sale on craigslist. Good to know there won't be a huge commercial interest for HD permits when they become available. At least it makes it fair for anyone wanting to hike HD. Anybody know the demand of HD permits when they become available? Are they gone withiby DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I would hope they have them cancelled once used. I guess it won't be as bad as I originally feared. I went on craigslist and eBay. I expected to see HD permits being scalped but couldn't find anything posted. A lot of requests for permits though.by DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Woah. I was just thinking. What would prevent permit-less people at the base waiting for hikers coming down the cable and bumming their permits? Or even hikers coming down and scalping their permits to permit-less people waiting down below? Do the rangers check ID along with the permit? It sounds like this is going to be a recipe for abuse. Thoughts?by DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks for posting the info Eeek! I was about to start looking for this info on the nps site. Much appreciated!!by DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
North rim of the valley. Lol! El capitan, Eagle Point, Yosemite Falls, Snow Creek Falls, etc.by DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Just curious if anybody could tell me if there is any reception on the North Rim.by DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quoteszalkowski Sometimes weekend campground reservations can be difficult at Point Reyes - not certain how it being Easter weekend is going to affect that. I have a marked preference for the Sky Campground (sites 7, 6, 5, 12, & 11 are best if you want to place your tent under the protection of trees) which is located along the spine of the Inverness Ridge. Be certain to "Climb Mt. Witteby DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I'm in the east bay and going to Point Reyes next weekend after all. I've always wanted to go but I'm usually always drawn to Yosemite. I can't get enough of that place. Being out here in the east bay I spend some time on Mt Diablo. I'll try the coast this time and check it out. Regarding the north rim trip, we'll definitely do Eagle Peak as well as El Cap and North Dome. We'll be coming backby DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I hear you about the valley. I was there during the firefall week and got to do some touristy sight seeing. Did the panorama trail last October and you're right! The views are breath taking! We're doing a north rim trip on memorial day weekend so I'll get to do snow creek trail then. I live in the bay and have a trip in to the central valley on Friday. My first thought was yosemite but I don't haby DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Yeah I guess it's a bit early for anything worthwhile in the valley. I'll look in to something out here in the bay.by DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Sorry about the vagueness. It was so clear in my mind as I was typing! Lol! I was thinking backpacking in yosemite from the valley. Although I realize conditions may limit those options. I'll be going solo, so I don't want to do anything that may be too adventurous. I'm also open to day hikes if necessary.by DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I have a 3 day weekend and was wondering if anybody had a 3 day 2 night trip suggestion. Preferably with light snow. I know it's early in the season but I'm hopeful I can find something to do that weekend. At the very least a few day hikes. All comments and suggestions welcome. TIA!!by DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I was there today, camped out with the rest of the photogs. Conditions seemed favorable. Good amount of water, clear skies, and a lot of anticipation. But it was a no show.by DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks for the quick responses! I'm thinking we're gonna be staying somewhere near N Dome. This would be our last night. Looking at the map, looks like it'd be a good distance from the valley to do in one day. We'll be coming out the snow creek th via mirror lake. Any idea what to expect conditions wise? I'm expecting snow on some places and wet trails. Any mosquitoes?by DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Looking to do the North Rim trail on Memorial Day weekend. Is camping allowed on or near N Dome or Yosemite Pt? I know conditions will vary from year to year but any idea what conditions might look like up there that time of year? Any issues with stream crossings? Looks like we'd be crossing ribbon, yosemite, and lehamite creek. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! TIA!!by DanTheMan - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Does anybody have any info or suggestions regarding fishing at any of these lakes or vicinity?by DanTheMan - General Discussion
nps.gov/yose site says: The trail from Tenaya Lake to Clouds Rest has 80 - 90% snow coverage on the switchbacks leading to Sunrise Lakes and has a knee to thigh high wade at the outlet of Tenaya Lake. Last night it said 100% snow coverage and waist to chest high wade! That threw me back a bit. I agree with you Bill, we'll go with it and will take our time. It would be part of the fun. Thanby DanTheMan - General Discussion
8 of us have permits for a hike from TM to YV June 27 to July 1. This is the tentative itinerary: Day 1 - TM to Sunrise HSC Day 2 - Sunrise to Clouds Rest Day 3 - CR to Half Dome (camp at JMT and CR trail junction) Day 4 - HD to YV I'm concerned about trail conditions and stream conditions. The nps.gov/yose says the trail past cathedral lakes is 100% snow covered and streams may be diffby DanTheMan - General Discussion
