And....please, please proceed carefully at the painted crosswalks watching out for pedestrians and bikers...sadly, we witnessed a collision between a biker and a vehicle due to the bikers' inattention.by jannykmac - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Our family experiences camping in the Valley campgrounds have been great and awful. Sadly, the rangers monitoring loud party activity are doing a poor job. Bottom line: if you are rising early for hiking , bring earplugs and hope that the rangers will grow backbones and begin confronting those that ruin the camping experience for everyone.by jannykmac - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Wow...so sorry you had to put up with such inconsiderate people with NO support from Yosemite staff. I hope you report this.by jannykmac - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Wow...what a trip! Kudos to you for being able to enjoy what you did enjoy. And as far as those backpacking tents are concerned...I saw how miniscule those babies are at our local REI a few weeks ago. I already know my limitations with those tents, and I must admit I absolutely HATE mummy bags too.by jannykmac - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Interesting postings. I have no problem with people who love to bike...and that includes me( wishing I lived in Davis, CA). What I find crazy is riding on a road like the part of 120 that has NO shoulders and a dramatic drop off on one side of it as you descend or ascend the valley. Nuff said.by jannykmac - General Discussion
Just posted on the skeeter thread... I bought a great repellent at one of the Yosemite Valley general stores (they both had it in June). It's citronella based and they have it in several forms. Buzz Off by Quantum...it cost a bit and it was all they were selling BUT IT WORKS : )by jannykmac - General Discussion
And to combat these critters...what was being sold in Yosemite Valley at the Curry and Yosemite general stores worked wonders (until the lil' buggers start going for your eyes!). Both stores sold only one product in various forms AND it was citronella based...nothing dangerous.by jannykmac - General Discussion
Anyone else seeing this? We left the valley via 120 and we saw 2 sets of people bicycling out or into the park on this very narrow road with no shoulders. One guy was zooming downhill with a number of cars held up behind him. Another couple, loaded down with their gear, were heading uphill. I don't understand why they are allowed to use this road; it's dangerous for all concerned.by jannykmac - General Discussion
We were in the valley a couple of nights on June 18-20th and they were BIG and hungry...this could be a June thing since we normally go in August...by jannykmac - General Discussion
On the morning of June 20, 2009 while leaving Yosemite Valley after tent camping for 2 nights we witnessed a gut-wrenching collision between a bicycle rider and a car. We had only been on the exit road for 3 to 5 minutes when we came to a stop at a painted crosswalk. Unfortunately, the car coming from the opposite direction did not stop. Coming from our left was a 40ish year old gentleman LOOKINGby jannykmac - General Discussion
